I wanted it prn Fin-lee, I was under the impression (perhaps naively) Finley was feminine with the whole unisex name thing happening lately.

I think of Finlay as pronounced fin-lee. I have a (older, male) cousin of my mother's by that name.
I suspect that all spellings etc. will be picked up by girls at least somewhat, I've seen both -lay and -ley versions used for girls. Like Elliot/Emerson/Riley/Asher and so on, I'd not count on girls (especially American girls) being named just one of the spellings. But that wouldn't keep me from naming a boy any of those if I wanted to. Of the two I prefer Finlay. Of Fin- names in general my favourites are Finian/Finnian, Finnegan, and Phineas. |
