Hi all

Just a quick question for some experienced peops out there :-)

I have just started using OPK's. My cycle is all wierded out as I recently had a MMC and D&C 6 weeks ago. I am yet to have a proper period and my FS did a scan and blood test on me yesterday and thinks I will ovulate "soon".

I started doing OPK's this monday. On monday I got a very faint line and it has been gettin darker but still not a positive.

Just wondering if these means that I should have my LH surge soon or do you just fluctuate with your levels until you get the surge?

Also - when is the best time to test girls?

The best time to test is late afternoon/evening as LH builds up during the day (unlike HCG which builds up overnight).

Sometimes OPKs gradually get darker, other times the test line becomes suddenly darker. Hormone levels can fluctuate between cycles.

Just keep testing.

Assuming that you have nothing that throws your hormones out of whack - yep, there is a build up (so you will see it gradually get darker before a true positive).

As PP kinda mentioned, aim to take OPKs around the same time of day. Your urine might be at different concentrations throughout the day, so the more dilute it is - the more faded your result will be, and you might think you're seesawing all over the place. Just compare the same time points.

In my experience they get darker.

I do IVF and I ALWAYS rush down for my blood test too early because I get too excited when The line gets a tiny bit darker.

They are very understanding though. Missing ovulation is a big (expensive) deal 'if' it were ever to happen...!

Yes mine did. I think I must have a very short surge, too, as I was only able to catch it and get a positive if I tested 3 times a day.

I would have tests that were barely there, then gradually darker, then one that was pretty much the same as the control line (and that coincided with the beginnings of ovulation pain and EWCM) and then the next one a few hours later was back to much lighter, negative again. I'm pretty certain I ovulated 24 hours from the positive test every cycle.

Get some cheapies and test frequently, more than once a day. Good luck.

I have a short surge like Lozoodle too. If I dont test three times a day I miss my surge. For example: one cycle I tested at 10am, it was negative, then I tested at 2pm it was positive, then I tested between 7pm and 8pm and it was negative again. I was charting at the time too so my I had a temp rise the next morning to confirm ovulation occurred.

The very first time I bought OPK's I tested every day three times a day from the day my period finished (silly i know, but hey I was excited :-) ) And the test line did gradually get darker. Though I must admit I have never really had a really faint line or no line. My test lines have always been darkish.

I read on a trying to conceive website that the best time to use an OPK is at 2pm after not urinating or drinking for four hours. That way the urine is nice and concentrated and you receive more of an accurate result.
