I am looking at trying reorganise my office space so am looking at getting this desk and bookshelf combo from IKEA:

http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/60116069/

Desk is $50 and bookshelf we want is $139. So $189 all up.

The only thing is that there are no drawers or a filing cabinet within the actual unit. You can buy drawers to fit within the square storage areas but they only come in black or white. We prefer this dark brown/black colour so the drawers won't go too well I wouldn't think. Unless I get white?!

Has anyone else got this combo set and what do you think? I was searching everywhere for a corner desk with more storage space but which didn't take up too much room iykwim? I have failed to find anything else that I like from anywhere.

I think it would look OK with black drawers.

The brown is actually pretty dark, so at first glance they look the same colour as the black

You can get cane baskets to fit the cubes which also look very nice.

We're buying our expedit desk this weekend to fit the 4x4 expedit shelves we already have.

Hate to break it to you, though, but the desk is $80 in Oz nand $199 combined with a 4x2 shelf unit. You're looking at the US site.

Yeah I considered this but with my volunteer work I do have HEAPS of paperwork (some confidential things that I am required to lock away) so I think I will still need to get a separate filing cabinet- but will get one of a smiliar colour so it matches from somewhere like Officeworks. I think I will get some of those material storage cubes for the unit though for storage of other things like stationary etc.

LOL! Whoops!! I thought it sounded cheaper than when I first looked at it a couple of weeks back!! Thanks

I am going down to look at them on the weekend. Can someone tell me how big are the boxes. I still don't know which colour to go for. I am not trying to match anything inparticular in the house. It will probably depend what they have in stock I suppose as I really do want to get one asap.

Ha Ha I am sitting at one now! It is white and we love how big it is. All work/ homework gets done in our communal area and two people can easily use it at once. This is one of Ikea's well- built items. Strong and sturdy. Quite high, though, so adjustable chairs may be necessary. I recommend it.
