I had one of the most terrifying experiences of my life today. The school called to tell me a child had reported seeing my son pulled into a car by a stranger and that they had contacted the police.

In the end it was a misunderstanding but now that I have stopped sobbing I want to give a gift to the school for the way they handled it and to the child for reporting it (the child didn't purposely make a false report, the circumstances certainly looked like that's what was happening).

I was going to give a box of chocolates to the school and chocolate to the child. Do you think this would be okay?

Also just a warning, all this happened in the not even 100m that the kids walk to school. Shows how quickly something can happen.

OMG. How scary and upsetting for you! Glad all was ok and it was a misunderstanding.

I think it's entirely ok to give chocolates.

I'm okay now. I was calm when I was talking to the Principal but lost it after I found out he was okay.

Feeling much better now. I'm just so glad that my kids go to a school where the students report these things and the school acts so quickly and efficiently.

Ended up going with chocolates for the staff and those wind-up crayon things for the student with a little note.

Wow how terrifying for you, i can imagine just completely falling apart being told that. I can only imagine how releived you felt when you found out it was a false alarm!!!
I think it was really kind of you to get the child who reported it a gift. Even though he obviously misinterpreted what he saw he still did the right thing letting someone know.

Thanks. I don't want him to be dissuaded from reporting anything again just because this time it was a false alarm. He did the right thing and all too often real tragedies go unreported because people don't want to get resolved. I want his parents to know, they should be so proud!

What actually happened??

What actually happened was a car had pulled over near my children that had a dog in it. The dog barked and the boys got scared. My eldest ran but my middle child is petrified of most dogs so he just stood their crying. The driver of the car got out and was comforting him near the car.

The child who reported it was going past on the bus and all he saw was Sebastian running whilst a stranger had Ethan by the shoulders near a car. The child reported it and the school rang the police after paging my son and him not coming to the office (he was still being consoled outside the school at the time). Then they rang me and my heart stopped beating for the 5 mins until it was discovered he was safe. Then I bawled.
