Hi there, I'm after some advice from the dog guru's on here. We rescued Pip a 5 month old kelpie cross a couple of weeks back. When we first got her Digby our other dog and Pip got along famously. But last night Digby came and sat next to me for a pat and Pip went him. I growled at her in a deep voice (not yelling) and put her outside for a few minutes. She was ok after I let her back in.
Fast forward to today, Pip had to have xrays at the vet so was sedated. When I picked her up she was still very sleepy. I brought her home and settled her in her bed, when Digby walked over to check her out she went him again (although not very sucesfully as she was struggling to walk straight). Digby is now being very submissive and withdrawn. She also snapped at him tonight when he was walking towards me. My take on it is that she doesn't like sharing me with Digby. How do I go about stopping this behaviour as it really is upsetting and this was Digby's house first. Sorry for the essay but I know someone on here will have some ideas to help. Thanks in advance. |

Jenks, I will reply at length later, but it sounds like the dogs are deciding amongst them who is alpha.
It doesn't really matter which dog comes first, and there is very little humans can do to change that order - what you can do is take steps so that it doesn't become a problem for you and the dogs. |
