Hi ladies

I am wondering how many people get a growth scan in the third trimester?

If so when did you have it?

I had one with the previous pregnancies at around 34 weeks but this time around the same obyn doesnt seem interested in doing one - said we could if we want to. A friend told me the other day that her obyn does them as routine at 32 weeks??

I know if you go public its not routine but im wondering if you go private is it?

Nope, not routine. Unless there is a concern re; growth, lack of movement, low lying placenta etc. then there is really no need for one.

ETA - I was public last time and am private this time, currently 37+4

I have had babies in 2003, 2005, 2006, 2009, 2011 and am pregnant, only time I had a growth scan is with my toddler, as I had gastro and was hospitalized and the ignorant dr told me baby was IUGr. I had the scan ti prove him wrong (baby growth right on track). Didn't even have one with the one before and he was over 10lb.

They shouldnt be standard as regardless of size, most women can push out a baby anyway.

I had one with my first but ot with my second (both with same obs and private). I did query her on it second time around and she said it was because I hadn't popped out much the first time......

Sorry, just had to take a moment to reminisce about having stomach muscles.....

Also my Obs was old school so she didn't have a little scan machine in her office. Don't know if that makes any difference?

In 29 weeks and my OB hasn't mentioned anything about it yet, even when I brought up my concern over his size (I'm worrie he is BIG!) so I'm assuming she doesn't do them as standard.

FWIW, When I asked if he was big, she had a feel around and said she would expect him to be average to a little above agerage size.

Never had one through 3 pregnancies.

I had a scan with my last pregnancy at the end, but only because I was post dates.

this pregnancy they're going to give me one even tho i'm public cos my ds was so big. Their scan date is 8 days ahead of 'our' date based on my cycle (my dd and ds were both born on our due date not the scan date) and so they don't reckon they'll let me go past their scan date which would technically be 38+6 but they'll do a scan to check bub's size

We are going private and my OB does them at every appointment.

I had one at 30weeks and 27 weeks because I had a midwife who was obsessed that my baby was going to be tiny - GP was never worried. 30wks came back average. 37 came back as 3.1kg. My family have always had small babies so when I found out she was 3.1kg at 37 weeks I worried for the next 3 weeks that she would be huge. She was born at 39+5w at 3.03kg so I needn't have worried. All the stories I hav heard about growth scans are that they are fairly innacccurate.

Nope not done routinely.
Didnt have one with DD1 but I did have one with DD2 to check on her well being and growth, this was done at 35 weeks after I was diagnosed with OC.
