Hi, could I get a few quick replies on this one - need to get a Christmas gift for a 3 - 5 year old boy who is unknown to me (Wishing Tree thing).
Could I get a few ideas on the best and most popular things for boys that age at the moment? Want to get something they will love, but not spending too much money (around $20). thanks for any replies! |

I agree with the matchbox cars. My boys particularly love the trucks or emergency vehicles models. You could also get larger matchbox brand single vehicles within the $20 range. They have a moving part and buttons with sounds

Kmart also have big packs- we're talking 200 pieces- of various themes, dinosaurs, emergency vehicles, soldiers, police, farm etc. They are only $15. My nephew is big in to army men and trucks ATM so we got him the soldier set. He absolutely loves it.

My boys brought a Kmart car garage which came with 3 cars. It was $15. Kmart brand of toys. They have played with it all day!
It's got a lift for cars, ramps. Pretty good for 3 year old boys. |

HI there
A pack of blocks or lego like building set. Agree with cars/vehicles that move, do something, noise, etc. The only cars that get played with in this house are those that have opening doors or puzzle cars (come apart into say 6 pieces), or are pull back cars. But then DS has never been into cars much, just the working out how they work, so I'm biased. HTH. |

For WOW factor, my 6yo was given a toy for his birthday from a boy at school when he had a party: it was a huge box and a landing pad/ aircraft landing on a freighter ship- I was mortified- thinking it had cost a fortune but it is at Kmart and only costs $15. Has small aircraft etc that all fit neatly inside when you finish playing with it.
Otherwise, a fireengine (for 3-4yo) or anyhting with wheels for boys! |

Thanks everyone!!
I ended up getting some Hot Wheels and Matchbox cars in the Hot Wheels box. My little boy (2) adores cars, but thought maybe older boys might be into something more sophisticated (ha ha but boys will be boys whatever age!) But I think after reading all your suggestions, I might grab another tag from the tree for another little boy. You have inspired me. Hope you all have lovely Christmases x |
