I'm getting reflux (well I think it's reflux, I've never had it before, it's a burning feeling in my throat).
Any tips on how to minimise/stop it?
Thanks biggrin.gif

I'm a Rennie's gal biggrin.gif But any brand of heartburn/indigestion tabs will do the trick. I also have to avoid any wheat-heavy foods (bread), anything spicy... Drink lots of water too!

Now I'm craving a TUMS and I don't even have reflux symptoms at the moment.......must resist!!

newseason- Just check with your pharmacist that whatever you choose is suitable in pregnancy, because not all over the counter reflux medications are. There are also stronger medications your GP can prescribe if needs be.

I sent DH off to the chemist the other day for Zantac for Heartburn and he came back with Gaviscon liquid - blech. Pharmacist said a lot of them are not effective for what causes the probs in pregnancy and won't do much so Gaviscon it is - it's gross but it does work original.gif

I am on medication for reflux anyway, but it gets worse when pregnant. I have been munching on mylanta tablets when it flares up and anything can trigger it for me, sometimes just a glass of water is enough to do it. Very frustrating! the nurse at my antenatal appt with my gp said gaviscon if the most effective over the counter product to take as it puts a coating across the top of the stomach, preventing the acid from coming back up. I have to get some!

My advice if you are trying gaviscon liquid is to start with a very small bottle to see how it goes. My DH bought me what looked like an industrial size one last pregnancy but the first time I used it I threw up violently and I can tell you the experience of throwing up that slimy chunky liquid was horrendous as it carried all the burning acid with it and my throat was on fire for hours. The entire bottle went to waste then.
Good luck.

I have to avoid citrus or spicy foods, haven't tried any meds though.
I also have some mineral/soda water in the fridge which helps me to burp then I feel a bit better. Gross, I know!
