Hi,
My 2 year old DD has always been susceptible to eczema on the face. Usually its not too bad.. but this year I am noticing that when I put on sunscreen she seems to get quite bad eczema. We use the banana boat sunscreen for babies.. it supposed to be grease free, fragrant free etc.. so you would think it would be ok ... but??! Does anyone have recommendations for sunscreen for eczema prone skin? Especially a roll on is good as DD loves rolling it on her skin (which helps let us apply it!!). Any help appreciated. |

My son had eczema and we found the cancer council stuff didn't flare him up. Having said that we often kept him out of the sun, made him wear big floppy hats and long cotton sleeves and pants

My DD reacts terribly to most sunscreens. She is OK with it on her arms and legs, but if it's put on her face, the poor little thing looks like she has been burnt. Her excema flares, and it is painful as well. I "think" I have worked out that it is a particular chemical that she is sensitive to. The common ingredient is the methoxylcinnamate, or variants thereof. Banana boat was always bad ( despite it being really good for my sensitive skin). I have been trialling the invisable zinc rollon, which seems pretty good. The banana boat mineral kids sunscreen has been good as well. The best one was the avene face sunscreen. The dermatologist recommended that one, it is excellent but expensive. I try not to use sunscreen a lot unless we need to. Hats, etc are great. The biggest problem I have is the sunsmart policy. Even thought the "outdoor" area at daycare is actually indoor, the policy makes them put sunscreen on everyone. Good luck! Got to love sensitive skin

DS2 also reacts to the cinnamate preservatives the pp mentioned. We use Hamilton toddler, the one with the pink lid.
SPF lip balm has been a bigger challenge, so far the only safe brand I've found is MooGoo. |

Methoxycinnamate is actually a sunscreening agent rather than a preservative.

Hi,
Thanks. The Hamilton sunscreen sounds like it might be a good idea. Will give it a go! |
