2yo with fever

My 2yo has had a mild fever, 38 - 39 degrees for 24 hours, would you take him to the doctors? I've given panadol once. He has a history of ear infections but he doesn't have a runny nose this time so I'm sure it's not that. He is eating and drinking okay but more grumpy than normal Anyway my question is, would you take your toddler to the after hours doctor if he had a fever for 24 hours? eta: I don't think it's his ears as there is no runny nose.. I'd want someone to look in his ears but would wait until the next day.

If he is otherwise fine, keeping fluids down and not overly stressed or agitated I would treat with panadol and not worry about the doctor

Did his temp come down with the panadol? If it didn't I would take him. If it is responding to panadol I would manage it and keep an eye on him overnight and see the dr in the morning. You can also call the GP hotline 1800 022 222

I would. Can't hurt, might help. I say this as a health professional, especially since, as far as I can tell from your post, Panadol hasn't reduced the fever.

No I wouldn't. I may take him the next day, though, as I hate not knowing what is wrong with them. Once they can talk I use their behaviour as a guide for need to see GP.

I wouldn't bother. If he's drinking fluids and eating a bit of food, I really think it would be a waste of time. Just ride it out with rest, fluids and panadol.

Take him to doc- I took my son last week because of on and off fever for a few days and it turned out he had a bad ear infection! I had no idea- no other symptoms but fever. I felt so guilty for leaving it for three days- he had to go on antibiotics and the doc said he must be in pain

Not sure where you are, but there is a virus going around at the moment that causes fevers for a couple of days, as well as sore throat and tummy. DD1 had it over the weekend, it only lasted 2 days. DD2 has it now, and a couple of friends' kids have also had it. We're in NW Sydney. I wouldn't rush to the doc tonight, unless the temp spikes really quickly and can't be brought down.
