Hi girls,

I need your opinions!! this morning I thought my waters had broken! I called the hospital and talked to a midwife who said it sounded like they had and to come in to get checked out etc.

Now though, I feel like a complete idiot!! We went into the hospital and they did an internal to check if my waters had broken. My OB just happened to be at the hospital when we got there so he did it for the midwives. The internal showed that he didn't think my waters had broken but they sent me for an ultrasound to make sure. The ultrasound showed lots of water around the baby so they are all pretty much sure my waters haven't broken.

So now I just feel so silly! But I can't understand it!! I was positive that my waters had broken. First I felt like I had mucous coming out but then instead some clear fluid came out and was trickling down my leg. A few minutes later I had a big gush of more clear liquid and I was standing in a pool of water on the kitchen floor! I'd only just been to the toilet and I didn't feel like I needed to pee at all! There was no way I could even hold it in or stop it from coming. So that's why I'm so confused!!?!?! Surely I just can't pee myself!?

I've had no pain or contractions or anything else at all either so I'm pretty sure it was nothing. I'm feeling so annoyed at myself!! So disappointed too as I really thought this was it and that we'd be meeting our baby today! I was so excited when it happened. I really thought things had started!

I think it's definitely possible to pee yourself - particularly if the baby is sitting on your bladder. I've heard of this happening.

Maybe keep an eye on it - if your water broke and you lost your mucus plug it's really important that you get onto antibiotics as infections can spread quickly.

It sounds as though you did all the right things though.

Its possible for a hindwater to leak, I've had that happen twice. Both times it wasn't picked up and for whatever reason it stopped leaking. But I know what waters breaking look like as it always happens for me before or during early labour.

Keep an eye on it, if there is any more leakage wear a pad and try to catch it.

Eta- What you described is what happened at 36+6 with dd 12. When I got to hospital they said my waters hadn't broken. A few hours later the rest went. She was born a few hours after that. Good luck!

My Ob (who may have been lying for me) told me I likely had a increase in cervical fluid combined with the very hot day and I got 'confused'

To be fair, I wet myself enough in pregnancy to know that and it wasn't that unless I was the most hydrated person on earth so there was no wee scent or colour and I didn't know I was weeing.

Could it be a hindwater leak? I had one of these 3 days before my 2nd baby arrived. My first labour started with waters breaking, and it was very similar to this (the smell, texture etc), however the total amount of amniotic fluid that came out was much less (and obviously my labour didn't start). My midwife said they are not that uncommon and that the hole can heal up by itself.

When I was in labour with my 2nd my waters broke "properly" just at the start of the 2nd stage, with a big explosion, so that confirmed for me that the earlier fluid was a hindwater leak.

There was no scent or colour either. Just totally clear exactly like what water looks like.

Originally the midwife suggested it might have been a hind water leak but I think it was then decided it wasn't? During the internal they were looking for a pool of water near the cervix or a trickle when I coughed but didn't see either?

Ekbaby, did you have any pain or contractions when your hind water broke? I haven't had any pain or cramps at all. I feel completely normal otherwise.

My waters did break at 37 weeks and it was like you are describing but it did continue to come out over the next 10 minutes. I didnt have some very mild period likepain with it.

There was also a popping noise at the same time.

Baby was born 2 days later.

Keep an eye on things as it could continue today

My actual waters didn't break for another 10 days - I'm pretty sure I didn't have a hindwater leak as they did some kind of swab which I gather can tell the difference between waters and other fluids?

I was wearing new white cotton knickers, the midwife agreed it wasn't wee but she also had no clue as to what it was! Maybe my ob was right

My hospital did a swab and tested to see if amniotic fluid was present (it was, I was right!) Did they do that for you? This was after suggesting to me that it may have been hindwaters, also. If you're not GBS+ I assume they send you home to wait it out?

After the first 'flow' I put on a pad and went off to blow-dry my hair, but nothing else came out. I was GBS+ though so the hospital said to come on in for that test, but 'leave the bags in the car'

ETA: I had also been having cramps, aka contractions, all morning but was too busy to stop and take note of the timing and so forth. Thinking back, at 40+3, perhaps I should have!
