[/size]I have already posted about names, but a few more months inand DH and I are no closer to deciding on a name for bub #2….. and have a fewmore questions…..



DD is called Eloise (no nn as of yet, although sometimesgets Ella from us and sometimes gets Ellie from grandparents).



We have narrowed down the girls list to the following:



Madeleine – thinkit matches with Eloise and love the name
Is it too popular?
Could we use Adele as a nickname instead of Maddie? So as not to be confusedwith Maddison.



Philippa – lovethe name and love Ella and Pippa as a sibling set

Does it match with Eloise, or does it sound too British egPippa Middleton.



Abigail – not asconvinced, but a really nice girls name

Is it too popular? I seem to hear more Abbie’s than othernames when out and about these days.

Does it match with Eloise?



Evelyn – was myfavourite for a while, but have gone off it a little lately

Would it cause too much confusion with the pronunciation, ieEve-lyn v Ever-lyn

Is it too twee to have matching first name initials?





We are a little more settled but still unsure about boysnames, DD would have been Lachlan were she a boy, but it seems that I come acrossLachlans/Lachie’s everywhere and so now the name is a little less appealing. Iwould love a name like Hugo/Hugh or Sebastian, but DH not at all convinced.

Is it too twee to have matching first name initials? We wouldprobably go with the nickname Ted or Ned (if I can convince DH) though.



Any comments or other suggestions…?

I love your names OP.

Philippa NN Pippa is by far and away my favourite, followed by Abigail. I don't mind Madeleine but I'm not a fan of Evelyn.

Edward if my favourite boys' name but I would stay away from same initials personally.

TBH I really don't like any of the name options.

However, I prefer Evelyn and Phillippa to Abigail and Madeleine. I've never heard Evelyn pronounced as Eve-lin so unless you are intending to use that pronunciation then I think it's ok. Similarly, unless you specifically don't want to start a trend, I don't think it's twee to have two E names - it's not like they start with the same syllable.

In saying that, I really dislike Edward, and Twilight really cemented my dislike. I prefer Lachlan but agree it is popular and it's also a bit polarising.

I like Madeliene with Eloise. Don't mind Edward. I really don't like the name Lachlan.

Would love Sebastian or Hugo with Eloise.

If you like Adele (which I've never heard as a nickname or shortened name for Madeleine), then just call her Adele. That's a perfectly nice name all on it's own and goes very nicely with Eloise.

I don't like Evelyn, it's my grandmothers middle name and she was always so glad none of her granddaughters were lumped with it.

Eloise and Abigail are lovely together.

I like Edward, and I love the NN Ned, but should you end up with an Eddie and an Ellie, you will do your head in!

What about Theodore NN Ted? Theodore Lachlan is lovely.

Philippa and Edward!

Madeleine, nice and goes with Eloise. Sure it's popular, but how much is too popular - only you can answer that. For some people it's just not an issue, for others a deal breaker.

Philippa - love this! Maybe a different style of name to Eloise, but I don't think it's a problem really.

Abigail - another good name, too popular? again only you can judge the level of popularity you're ok with.

Evelyn - I can't warm to this name, prefer all your other options. Not twee though to have 2 of same letter.

Edward, NN Ted or Ned - love all these! No it's not too twee.

Only problem with Madeleine is that she was a children's book character as was Eloise - both being handfuls if I remember rightly. It is also quite popular - DS had four Madeleines in his class all through primary school.

Don't like Philippa at all would call a girl Pippa as her full name

Don't like either Abigail or Abbie

Don't like Evelyn

Like Madeline

Don't like Edward and especially don't like Ted or Ned

Sebastian is a beautiful name

don't think about names being popular If you truely love a name no matter how popular or unpopular it is then choose it.

IMO I believe you have a huge responsibility of naming your child and they will live with that for life so choose something you truely love not just like a lot

I am not a fan of NN my children both have names that can have a NN but I or them pull people up on it and say their name is such and such not the abbreviation they suggest.
