BNUR and aged care cert 3, should i do aged care cert 3 also?

Hi all, has anyone got any advise on how i should go about working as an aged carer please?...i am 4 units into the bachelor of nursing degree but am only planning on one unit per sem in 2013 so i wont be doing a prac until 2014 ( as i want to enjoy the oportunity to spend my youngest daughters year before kindy and the years of schooling beyond).I'm considering the cert 3 in aged care over the school holidays so i can get into the industry quicker ...i only want to work a couple of shifts every second week that my DP is home....Is this realistic in the industry? I'm a hard worker...Is there plenty of work for casual work like this and any thoughts what so ever would be very much appreciated. thanks everyone...

I was an AIN for six yrs before I was a RN. Never had any trouble finding work, didnt matter what I was looking for (cas, part time, full time). Its an industry that has high worker fatigue and therefore a higher staff turnover. And just be honest and upfront in your interview and tell them what you're looking for, but I am sure you want have any trouble. I think the best thing I ever did was have my cert three before my RN's, I got so much hands on experience for the basics that meant when I went on prac I was focused on my clinical skills and could be more efficient in the basics so I could do spend more time on the stuff I was learning at uni.

Im currently a first year nursing student (part time) so i've done half and do my other half next year (with my practical courses) and I wish I was an AIN doing the course just for background knowledge. At the end of next year after placement I will be able to do AIN work.

thankyou so much for your comments ladies.i felt heartwarmed ...what great advise" to be honest" thank you. i will book today.I think i am going to go with ODEN (NSW Tafe) externally and its $840 or thereabouts which i can pay in two payments. i wasn't sure if i was being silly but now i feel so reassured.i acnt thankyou enough for your comments of support. good luck adnama with your studies and future career and dreamofcats, i bet your 6yrs of AIN work has helped you become a very understanding RN when it comes to the carers perspective. xxx
