My baby has just turned one (oh my goodness!) and has been on a high dosage of Losec for reflux from just a few months old. She takes 2.5 ml three times a day. I can't reduce it! She's eating lots of solids, and I thought this'd help control the reflux, but every time I try to cut back even a few mls, within a few days she's refluxing, crying and having trouble sleeping again.

When and how have you weaned your bubs off reflux medications? I'm booked to see her paed again, but it's not for another month, and I really thought we'd be past this by now. Just as well she loves her medication!

Interested to hear people's responses here - I;m currently weaning my 18 month old off losec - she has been on 10mg for a long while due to failure to thrive - paed has advised to cut down to 5mg daily to see how she goes. So far so good....

My DS was also on losec but didnt need it beyond about 6-7 months once solids were established so am hopeful that DD will be OK without it.

My DS was just over 12 months when I could stop his medications. He went from needing them one day to not the next - it was like his little body matured overnight.

Weaned bubba around 8 months off the losec. Cut the dose to half over a month or so and on an adhoc basis 'forgot' to give her the dose occasionally and petered out from there.

Good luck x

We tried to wean DS2 off Losec many times eg. 6 months, 9 months, 12 months etc.
Eventually came off Losec at 28 months.
Now aged 4 and he has been back on med since August this year.

If she is visibly refluxing, not sleeping etc. when you reduce the dosage then I would leave it until you see your paed.
Have you heard of RISA? They have been a great support to me and their site has lots of helpful advice.

DD was 12 months when we could stop her Nexium (Losec was ineffective). We weaned her off it gradually. She began throwing up again but it didn't bother her so we rode out the mess. At 15 months she is now fine.

Thanks for the replies! It's good to know that being on the drug at 12 months is not uncommon, and there's hope yet!
