I have had an insatiable itch since 14 weeks, it has interrupted sleep, activities etc. I have seen my dr, several other drs and 4 hospital visits (One time my BP went up and I was admitted for monitoring). The dr keeps prescribing steroid creams, today I got abs as the sole of my right foot is infected from itching, I can't help it

I've had issues with an itchy foot for over ten years now and it seems to be some form of ezcema that only flares when my feet get hot and sweaty. I'm talking 'want to slash your foot open to get some relief' type itchiness. My GP prescribed a mild steroid ointment that I mix with Lamisil and apply.
I know it flared a fair bit at the end of my pregnancies when the weather was warmer and my feet were huge with fluid retention. The GP presribed a different steroid ointment for use during pregnancy and I have just kept going with using it when I need to. I found the thicker ointment versions much more effective than the creams, just in case that info helps you. I hope yours goes away. I used to get it on both feet about 13 years ago but now only on one. Still sucks. This post has been edited by Puggle: 03/12/2012, 07:58 PM |

I am so sorry you have to deal with this. It is just awful and I only had to deal with it for 6 weeks at the end of my second pregnancy. Mine did go away for the most part two weeks before my due date so I guess there is hope.
Did I reply in a thread of yours recently? Sorry if I'm being repetitive but: My best remedies were cold packs and cold aloe vera gel and cold Vitamin E oil. The Vitamin E oil also helped to keep the rashy itchy skin in good condition so the itchiness wasn't exacerbated by too much dryness and irritation. I also came across someone who suggested those ice cold sports gels that come in a can but mine went away before I needed to try that. Worth a shot if you haven't already. My OB has seen a bit of it and he suggested a lot of women get some relief from cold chamomile tea for some reason but if you've done any googling you've probably already tried this. He also prescribed Polarmine for me, not because the antihistamines take away the itch - they didn't really - but because when I got desperate they helped me to get some sleep. The tiredness was worse than the itching at times. He also offered me extra scans to help motivate me through the pregnancy to full term (I didn't need these in the end) and an induction at 38 weeks if I couldn't bear it anymore. These might be options to discuss with your doctor. I wish I could help more than that. If you ever need to vent please PM me and I'm happy to lend a sympathetic ear. Thinking of you and wishing you every bit of possible rest and relief and support and distraction. |

It goes away.
In the meantime try to find the nearest MooGoo supplier (some Amcal pharmacies have it) and get some of their body wash or cream. Chemical free and works beautifully for many people. They can be found on line, and they have a 'nearest stockist' option. Good luck, I hope you get some relief soon. |

You have my most sincere sympathy
I had it for the last 3 weeks of my pregnancy and it almost drove me insane. I ended up being induced at 38 weeks due to this and elevated BP. Thankfully it went away immediately after. I honestly also think it played a role in me getting PND as I was a mess when I gave birth and with having a newborn u didn't get a chance to recover. Good luck and I hope you find something that gives you relief. |

I feel for you I had it for the last 6 weeks of my first pregnancy and it was unbearable. Started n mt tummy and ended up everywhere, but my face.
Make sure you have been checked by blood test to rule out choleostasis which is much more dangerous. But, as PUPPPS isn't dangerous it is very hard to get anyone to take you seriously. What most of the PP have said already re useful for some relief. The polaramine enabled me to sleep, but I was only given this about a week before delivery. I also tried flax seed oil and dandelion tea as there was some people who said they help. I have no idea if they did, but I was desperate. Mine was still awful after DD was born so a kind young OB at the hospital got me in t see a dermatologist who was very helpful. She gave me lots of moisturizers, steroid creams and got the chemist to make up aqueous cream with 1% menthol that was very soothing. For most people it goes away very quickly once the baby is born, mine took about 6 weeks. QUOTE I honestly also think it played a role in me getting PND as I was a mess when I gave birth and with having a newborn u didn't get a chance to recove I understand this completely, the itchy feeling made me feel so uncomartable and miserable, it also made feeding reallly uncomfortable. It didn't help it was the hottest summer for ages (hence my second child is a winter baby) |

Oh you poor thing! I remember waking up every morning with my sheets covered in blood as I'd been scratching in my sleep. And cold showers at 2am to try and ease the itch.
Polaramine helped a little. Like a PP my chemist made me a cream with menthol in it, it was the only thing that relieved it at all, I alternated this with steroid cream. It didn't last long but it would be enough to let me get to sleep. I didn't get it on the soles of my feet though, mainly belly, arms and legs. Have they checked for choleostasis? ETA mine went away about 2 weeks after DD2 was born. This post has been edited by ~Jot~: 03/12/2012, 09:29 PM |

I have used moogoo, oats, pinetarsal, qv, gold milk soap etc. all the usual things. Not one bit of relief. The pharmacist sympathised, said his wife suffered with no relief for her pregnancy. Induction will not be an option as I'm a vbac and I really don't want to book in for a repeat c section.
I'm worried about the infection, I don't usually take anti biotics but I am taking this course in hopes of getting this under control ASAP. The pain in my foot has been going on for about 2 days now. I have a decent steroid cream their is hoping will work a little, I also have Polarimine for tonight in hopes of getting some sleep. Back onto dr on Thursday, and he will give me some "heavy duty" steroids if no luck by then. I wish I had bee able to get into my dr earlier, he knows it takes me a lot to complain about something. So he took me seriously, and managed to fit me in again on Thursday. Would be nice if this sorts itself out soon, just thankful to have MIL here to help ATM. DH tells me I need to not scratch. Wish he could feel how insatiable this feeling is! |

They have done full bloods, fungal scrapings etx, checked for everything. Thankful it's not cholestasis, but pupps is just as frustrating (just no liver issues).

Have you had a biopsy OP? If it is blistered at all or you have small hard bumps or hive like swelling around the itch, you could ask your GP to check you for gestational pemphigoid or refer you to a dermatologist to rule it out. PG is often misdiagnoised as PUPPs because its rare, happily though fairly easily treatable (...with oral steroids which have their own challenges but still better than the incessant insatiable agonising itch!).
All the best xoxo |
