Hi all,
I want to buy a bike for myself for xmas and feel a bit confused. Years ago my ex bought me a racer and I really didn't like riding it. So many confusing gears, skinny tires, handle bars down - it wasn't for me. I would mainly ride on bike tracks - and some roads, though not game to ride around busy traffic areas. Tell me what sort of bike you ride, approx $ and where you bought it? thanks! |

Hi OP. I have an Avanti hybrid bike for women. It has upright handlebars so more comfy riding position. I can do 20km on it comfortably although now I am a better rider I might get a lighter frame next. It has 21 gears, a comfy seat, and fatter tyres. I really love it. I bought it at an Avanti bike shop in Sydney. About $400 I think. 1 year free service. No problems with it at all.
Good luck. PS I ride on bike trails and some on road (but prefer bike trails). I also ride recreationally not for commuting. Go to a good bike shop, tell them your preferences and ask for recommendations and a trial. This post has been edited by amandamac: 03/12/2012, 07:50 PM |

Definitely get a hybrid. I picked up a 24 speed hybrid from Anaconda at 60% off last weekend as they were selling out their current year stock. I didn't want anything fancy, just something I could ride with the kids. DH and the kids have Giants. Actually come to think of it, the kids bikes each cost more then mine!

Hi, i would also say hybrid for what you are wanting to use it for. I would also recommend getting fitted at a bike shop so you know it is a good fit and comfortable.

I've got a Giant hybrid and it's brilliant. Very comfy to ride and very easy to change gears. My husband originally had a cheap Kmart mountain bike, then got himself the boy version of my bike and he says the difference is like night and day.
When I was looking for a bike, I didn't have a clue but heaps of people recommended Giants and I'm so glad I went with that brand. |
