Hi

I'm trying to find ideas/recipes for making those gift jars of 'dry ingredients' for biscuits, slices, etc., where the recipient just has to add 'wet' ingredients to the mix. So the jar is layered with, for example, flour, cocoa powder, coconut, dried fruit, etc. (in pre-measured amounts), and a label is attached saying what else needs to be added (usually egg, milk, water, butter, etc.), and then how to cook the thing.

But I can't for the life of me think what they're called, and hence how to go about finding recipes?! I'd like to make a few as Christmas gifts so am looking for ones that are visually appealing (e.g. lots of different colours and textures so that the layers look really pretty).

Can anyone help please? original.gif

Hi OP...check out this blog.

I think the main principal is to ensure you put the fine ingredients to the bottom of the jar and the course ingredients at the top. If you put flour on top of chocolate pieces the flour would fall down through the chocolate and there wouldn't be a clear definition of ingredients.

If you google gifts in a jar I think you will probably get lots of options. I have used one from Bakerella and it is great

previously ~mummy2one~ and Mers
I have also used Bakerella's recipe but used Xmas m&m's to make the jar look Christmassy.

I am looking at dry salad mixes this year as well as brownies in a jar.

As a PP said google "gifts in a jar" and you will find plenty of ideas.
