I've got a two week old with what I think is colic. I'm a first time mum and I've moved into a new area so I don't really know anyone else with kids.
The local pharmacy has this product called "Wilby's Colic Mix" and I like the idea about it being natural but I haven't heard of it before.
Has anyone heard of it and does it work?
Or anything else that works?

Hi there, in general I wouldn't encourage new mums to try remedies for infant crying, 2 week old babies usually need milk (preferrably mums) and comfort measures.
They are not usually settled around the clock and do have at least one period of crying per 24 hours.

By 6-8 weeks both of my DDs were over it & the 5pm crying for hours had stopped.

I had an extremely unsettled baby and used it about the 6 week mark. I found it very good for calming and soothing him - he had reflux, colic and cmpi so was always writhing around in pain and never slept. Didn't help his sleeping but certainly seemed to calm him down quite a bit and he didn't seem so uncomfortable. You need to get it made up quite frequently, and from memory I used it for about 8 weeks or so. Good luck, colic is really tough.

I've not heard of it but in general I'd be very wary of those herbal mixes for babies. I have used Infacol or Infant's Friend after checking with my doctor. I'm not really sure that either of them really work tbh.

I hope that your little one settles down soon. The first 12 weeks are tough especially with colic.

That website is great, read it and read it again. It has a list of the principles of soothing that work, eg white noise, repetition, etc.
White noise in particular for us, has to be quite loud too. Breastfeeding is pretty magical too.

I used Wilby's colic mix with dd from six weeks till about 12 weeks. My lc recommended it as a natural alternative to infant's friend, infacol etc. I think it helped as well as the probiotics. There was a noticeable difference between when we did and didn't use it. I found the chemist and naturopath at the pharmacy very knowledgable. Main drawback is that it was expensive and has a shelf life in the fridge of only two weeks.

We also ended up speaking to a MHCN who told us that she had recommended the Willby's Colic Mix to several mums who had all raved about it. This was after using all of the other settling strategies suggested. We didn't end up seeing a chiropractor in the end because the mix worked straight away however that was next on our list

We were amazed at the results. It worked straight away. We used it for 6 weeks and initially noticed that her symptoms returned anytime we tried to wean her off it. We are all getting more sleep!!

Whilst I would strongly recommend this mix to anyone in the same position it is important to speak to a qualified health care practitioner like we did. I was very lucky to speak to a very good MHCN, pharmacist, and naturopath. Williams & Goldby Pharmacy in Boronia are the only people in Melbourne who sell the Willby's Colic Mix and their pharmacists and naturopath were very professional and knowledgable.
