i have very recently found out that i am expecting my 3rd. I remember the last time i had the gd test it made me incredibly sick it was something i never ever want to experience again. Is there any other option ? I obviously dont want to put the baby at risk but i would probably end up with a panic attack if i was made to drink that stuff again...

I had mine today and the test was aborted when I was sick in the middle of it, so I'd love to know the answer to this as well. I'm going to speak to my ob about it this week, but would be glad to hear from anyone in the meantime!

I was really NOT looking forward to doing the GD testing this preg, as like you, in first preg the test made me quite ill for the duration and felt like crap a day or two after. During first preg, I had to do both the short test and the long test (was sick from both, but funnily enough no GD for me). It was going to be my solution this preg, to request that I just skip the first notoriously unreliable test and go straight for the long 2-3 hr one - you know, torture myself just the once. Turns out, the procedure now is to do just that for everyone due to the unreliability of the first test.

I went in last week to do the GTT test, and was pleasantly surprised/relieved to find that the little green drink was not part of the test. Rather I was to drink 750ml of Lucozade as the glucose drink. OMG sooo much better. I was not sick at all, no heart palpitations, dizziness, headaches, etc. When I commented, yay no green drink, the nurse actually said to me 'Well, here we prefer if you ladies are able to keep the drink down and do the test rather than making you sick and testing you again and again" lol.

So maybe you can check who you've booked in with, what you will be drinking and find a place that uses lucozade. Also, the test is not compulsory so you could research not doing it, if you have discussed this with your Dr and you don't have any risk factors for GD. For me personally, this was not an option I would/could consider.

Thanks for the replies good to know about the new drink there's a history of diabetes in my family so I would be very silly not to get it done. Definitely something to look into
