Hi Everyone
This is my 2nd pregnancy and i remember i failed the first one, trying to avoid that this time i really didnt like the 2 hour test. So when is the best time to take the test, in the morning, mid morning, mid afternoon? I was thinking maybe have breakfast in the morning then an hour or 2 later have it done? Is there any breakfast type foods i should avoid? Will toast and a cup of tea be ok? Any midwifes out there? This post has been edited by clm1982: 03/12/2012, 10:42 AM |

I had mine at 8am today.
I'm only 16 weeks though, having it early on account of PCOS-related diabetes risk (and will have it again later on in the pregnancy). I was told to fast from 9pm last night for my 2 hour test and was told no water throughout the test (and certainly nothing else to eat or drink during the test). I've had it before and found it quite fine to be done with in the morning, especially with the fasting. Today it was a complete disaster as I'm still suffering quite badly from morning sickness and couldn't complete the test. I managed to vomit all over myself from the glucose drink an hour into it and have to come back another day to get it done. I think this is particular to me though as I'm still vomiting daily and can't go without eating something for long periods!! Was so upsetting In your case though I would be getting it done first thing in the morning and fasting from the night before, but I suppose that is because I haven't heard of getting the 2 hour one done without fasting. (I understood that affected your blood sugar and skewed the result) *** ETA: Sorry, for the benefit of anyone who reads this later, my comment relates to the Glucose Tolerance Test. OP has subsequently edited the original post. This post has been edited by whisk_: 03/12/2012, 11:00 AM |

Im only doing the 1 hour one to start with but i remember failing it with my DD and i dont want to fail this time. Im not allowed to fast for the 1 hour test as it will give a wrong reading.
Whoops calling it the wrong thing, its the Glucose Challenge Test im doing This post has been edited by clm1982: 03/12/2012, 10:41 AM |

I always went in the morning.
My ob told me to eat a normal breakfast & as long as I didnt eat a mars bar on the way to the test, it should be fine. I think I did avoid drinking juice that morning & just had cereal though just is case This post has been edited by imamumto3: 03/12/2012, 10:42 AM |

Hi again,
Sorry, my comment related to the Glucose Tolerance Test not the Challenge. That makes much more sense now as to why you're not fasting! I've amended my earlier post for the benefit of anyone who searches for this topic later. |

According to my SIL - don't eat a banana either.
That put her's over & she had to sit the 2 hour test. |

I failed the one hour test with DD1 and had to do the 2 hour test which was fine. I think where i went wrong was having it in the afternoon and grabbing some mcdonalds on the run for lunch on the way there - what an idiot LOL
With my second I just went first thing in the morning and didn't bother eating first, I just had it at 7.30am then had breakfast afterwards. Though i'm sure if you need to eat first some toast or something isn't going to do much to your blood sugar (unlike the coke I had on the way to my first one I'll do the same with this one. |

I cant remember what i ate with my first one or what time it was but im thinking toast with a cup of tea should be fine, then maybe about 1.5 hours later get the test done, just means leaving work for a few hours to get it done.

That's my plan, I'm just going in at 7.30 on Thursday when they open and then I'll get to work at about 9.30/10 which is late for me (normally a 7am start). My boss is cool with it though. |

don't eat ice cream and chocolate topping the night before either. I did before I was induced and my sugars showed high, it's probably not worth risking it
