I've had long hair for a lonnnnnng time and while I *do* like it and I *do* go to the bother of doing different things with it, I'm just plain bored of it. I'm getting plenty of grey hair at the ripe age of 33 and it's changing the texture of my hair so it's not as soft and silky as it used to be and my fine hair truth be told is quite damaged from the curling / straightening / drying / stabbed with a million hair pins over the years and a simple trim just isn't cutting the mustard for hair satisfaction.

Problem is I suffer GREATLY from hair cut remorse. The fear of not liking a new do often outweighs the taking a risk of change and I KNOW IT'S ONLY HAIR, but holy guacamole it takes a long time to grow back. ph34r.gif

BUT I'm putting this out there on the interwebz that change is good and having ten inches taken off my length might just give me a new fresh look that I didn't know I was capable of. The appointment is made and I've warned my hairdresser now I'll keep telling myself to be brave and JUST. DO. IT.

Please someone tell me if I hate it, it will be ok. rolleyes.gif

I had super long hair and had it cut a couple of months ago. While I know it's just hair, I'm afraid to say that I really regret it. My long hair is part of my identity, it's how people remember me.

Having said that, my hair is in great condition and not going grey, so perhaps I'd feel differently. Also, I'm a bit glad that my hair is shorter over summer, but I can't see myself cutting it in a hurry again.

I found that a skilled hairdresser knows what to do in terms of cutting in such a way that there are options afterwards and certainly will know how to cut it to grow it again if want to, without it being annoying.

It sounds like you won't be happy never going short and it sounds like now is the time.

My bet is you'll feel like a new woman once it's done. The only downside is needing to go to the hairdresser reasonably often once you go short (depending on the style). You may also end up experimenting with different short styles or variations on a style. You'll have to keep making hair decisions because it does grow continuously (that hit me when I first went short!).

New hair, new life! Enjoy it!

Before and after pics please!!!

Just don't go too short and if it's done well and incrementally over time, it will be great. original.gif

Just don't get the posh spice style middle aged bob that everyone I know over 35 has gone for! So boring!

Cobwebs are the new black!
Have fun!

I have had long hair, short hair and a multitude of different colours. I love changing my hair and if I didn't like it then I just changed it again.

Also try wigs. They are great fun and you instantly have long or short hair and styles that just aren't possible with real hair. I have about 7 wigs in different colours and hairstyles and I love them biggrin.gif

Take a deep breath and count to 10......
Oooohh, my hair is halfway down my back and was once thick and wavy/frizzy. I put it up for work and take the time to straighten when going out - not often though.
Due to some stress and not eating properly (I know, I know) I would say 2/3 of my hair has fallen out and lots more greys. My hands are covered in hair every morning in the shower ph34r.gif
So I have decided to get it cut short and coloured too to perhaps give it a chance to recover (and hope it will grow back!!)
Sorry to hijack OP, some photos would be good - might give me some ideas!

Go for it. I did it as a teenager and it was the best thing I ever did. It was literally and emotionally like lifting a huge weight. My tip is to go with mid length so it isn't too much of a shock, then next time you might want to try something more adventurous (or not original.gif ). Good luck.

You could get itcut to a bit below shoulder length and see how you feel about it then shorter from there with your next cut if you want.

If you have a lot of hair, you could donate it to that charity who was doing a promotion recently (can't remember the name) and they will use it for a wig.

Remember that after it is cut you win't need as much shampoo. I had a lot cut off once and used the same amount of shampoo and there was so much froth and bubbles.

I am not a fan of long hair for the sake of it, a nice style and it can make such a difference. Mine has been long, short and in between. It always grows back.

Long hair layered and nicely styled is great but a change is often just what you need for a fresh look.
