This is the 5th year I have had the implanon, I had it for the first three years ( 6 wks after DS was born ) and then replaced it three years later, the first time was great - but this is the second year ( second implanon ) and I've just gained a whole heap of weight. At least 20 kg ! I diet, ( should exercise more ) but trying to incorporate it into a busy lifestyle ( no excuse - I know ! )

But has this happened to anyone else - where you've gained alot of weight?

Im considering taking it out and having a go with the IUD or maybe even the Pill, although I have heard there is a needle you can get every three months that stops you from ovulating also?

But I just want to know if this has happened before with other ladies?

I've made an appointment with the doctor - but wants answers now ! biggrin.gif

All of the contaceptions have some sort of side effect most include weight gain.

I get the Depo shot but in my first year I did out on a few Kgs with it but knew it was a possibility. What suits you a few years ago may not suit now so is worth having a chat to your Dr about what the best option maybe for you

I had the Implanon and weight gain was one of the many negative side effects. I only had it in for 6 months. Never again.
The shot is the same hormone as the Implanon, so it will probably do the same to your body as what the Implanon is doing. Same for the mini pill. They are all progesterone only.

I take the pill. I get no side effects from it.

Its just so frustrating because the first implanon was great, but this second one hasn't been so great.

I just worry with the pill that I wont remember to take it same time every day but I think it might be the best option and ill set an alarm to take it.

I have noticed that the majority of contraceptives are good for a year or so but the longer you use it, the more side effects you get, its almost like the body fighting it or a build up of toxins?

I am hopefully getting mirena out tomorrow, the 1st year was great, even lost weight, 2nd year, reoccurring UTI's, constant thick discharge (very common side effect) dizziness, vagueness, memory loss et. etc.

Makes me wonder if the fact that depression is the number one illness right now if its not because of high contraception use...

I was depo for years but the weight started creeping on so changed to inplanon but bleed for 6 weeks, its the same as the depo only an implant the doc said...

I too have put on 20kg over 5 years with the Implanon. I had it taken it out in January of this year and slowly have been losing it bit by bit. Its the only side affect I had but obviously not one I wanted. About 3 years in I lost 15kg, but this meant not putting a single bad thing in my mouth, no alcohol and working out 6-7 days a week. The second I reduced the exercise or snuck in a chocolate bar or alcohol i started seeing the weight come back on.
