Just trying to figure out what we need from my son's book list for grade 5 next year.
On it there are a few things that I'm a bit puzzled by! Why would he need two pairs or scissors? Two wooden rulers and one plastic ruler? Do I really need them at the start of the year?? We're homeschoolers so this is the first time I've had to do this! Thanks! |

My DD2 is going into grade 5 next year, and yep they need 2 wooden rulers and 2 sharpeners, but only one pair of scissors.
Really have no idea why, maybe they think that the kids will lose or break them at some point during the year, so then they will have a spare. In the younger grades two pairs of scissors probably would have been a good thing, I noticed helping in the classrooms that after awhile the scissors started to become blunt and sticky from using them with glue and different art materials. I always keep multiples of anything like pens, textas, rulers and coloured pencils at home, that way my kids could say when the needed a new one and it didnt disappear at school to someone else who couldnt be bothered filling their booklist at all (we did have one child in class who would fill his pencil case with stuff 'borrowed' from everyone else). My kids also got into the habit of bringing home their pencil cases at each school holiday so I could restock if required with new pencils or glue sticks. |

When DS brought a list of "top up" stationery he needed home in the last school holidays, I had everything he needed in a big snaplock bag on the top of the fridge because I had reserved all double ups at the beginning of the year. We actually have so much stationery at hme, that I won't have to buy basics for the kids for a few years - I'll just dig through the box in the garage. Most of it has been gathered from pencil cases at the end of the year which have come home after stationery orders have gone in for the next year ... |
