Does anyone here take the mini pill Microlut? I am still breastfeeding DS at the moment only twice per day, since I have reduced the feeds my skin has started to break out along my jaw line quite badly. My dr has prescribed Microlut for contraception, I was wondering if had an effect on acne (yet to start taking it)? I am hoping it will clear it! Also how did you find the pill in general? Thanks :-)

I have taken it and it did nothing for acne.

Diane - which is not a mini pill was fabulous for acne though.

If a cat doesn't like you, then what's wrong with you?
I took it years ago and it did nothing for my acne either, it did make me bleed continuously for the time that I was on it, what better contraception is there than constant bleeding?

I've just gone off microlut. It wasn't for me unfortunately, it made my PMS unbearable and I bled unpredictably. But I've had no shortage of friends who have had a much better time on it!! DD is just weaning at the moment and the combined pill has dried up the last of my milk in a matter of days, I am pretty sure they won't prescribe it until you have weaned.

I took it for a year after DD was born and found it fantastic, don't remember it clearing up acne though. Then I tok it for 2 yrs after DS was born and it was awful. I had horrific PMS while taking it.

Like any hormonal contraceptive they act differently for different people and at different times in our lives so you can only give it a go and see how it works for you.

I don't think you can while breastfeeding, I think only the mini pill is safe, but if you are only feeding twice a day you might be able to, I'm not sure.

My understanding was that its not that the combined pill is dangerous for your baby per se - but more that the oestrogen in it will suppress your milk supply. Your other option is to get the depo injection (lasts 3 months - also progesterone only).

I was on the mini pill after having the depo injection for 6 months and i realllyyy didnt trust it (you need to be really careful that you take it at the same time).

I took microlut for about 10 months while breastfeeding, no side effects.

However, as soon as I stopped BFing and my period returned my skin broke out terribly.
It took about 3 months back on the combined pill and Differin cream to clear it up.

I took it for a year while BFing. my skin was quite good - its normally quite oily. However that could just have seemed to be the case as pregnancy made my skin oiler than ever ITMS.

I dont think I got any bad effects from it. Was lucky enough not to get periods back. Do be sure you take it every day at the same time though or it wont be effective, I know a few peeps who slipped up and got pregnant on it.
