Two weeks ago we converted my daugters cot (2.5yrs) to a toddler bed, mainly because we have a new baby on the way and she is toilet training, she wasn't climbing out and was perfectly happy.
The last 2 weeks have been a nightmare, she takes hours to get to sleep (with one of us in the room) and wakes every 2 hours or so, coming out wanting to get into our bed or have us sit with her until she falls back to sleep. So, we are thinking of moving back to the cot (although she says she doesn't want to). Has anyone else gone back to a cot? What was your experience? Any advice would be much appreciated. |

I wouldn't. You've made the transition stick to it. Introduce a toy to sleep with a night light or bedside lamp for her to turn
On when scared. Good luck OP! |

My DS1 had quite a bad regression when we put him in a bed. At first it was like nothing had happened and he slept like normal, then it all changed. Happily though, it only last a few weeks with us just enforcing bed time routines and sleeping in his own bed and then he was fine. I wouldn't put it back into a cot because you will probably find you will have the same issues when you put her in a bed again. Better to get it over and done with while you are pregnant, than having to do it with a new born.

I wouldn't move her back to the cot. Persevere with it.

We had the same experience a while ago. I gave up and put the cot side back on. Ahh bliss again

I would persist. With my boys (who were both under 2), I had a portacot and if they got out of bed 3 times, they went into that. Totally backfired with DS2, who was quite happy to come out and ask to go in the cot. With DD (not quite 2.5), who was also happy to go into the portacot, I put a baby gate across her bedroom door.

Baby gate on bedroom worked for us.
Bed transition was a nightmare, but we couldn't go back to the cot, as both girls tantrumed and jumped out of the cots! |

Thanks everyone for your replies.
CAWO I think that's what I wanted to hear, but I'm worried converting back will backfire. She has her favourite teddies/comfort objects, night light ect. We tried the baby gate for a few nights but she was hysterical, and was climbing it. We also tried the portocot, she didn't get out but again screamed the house down. I think we could deal with taking a long time to get to bed if that was the only issue, it's the middle of the night wakings/tantrums that are really getting to us - sleep deprivation is bad enough in pregnancy already. Will probably see how she goes for one more night before converting back. |

munchmum - When we took the cot sides off bedtime went from being no trouble to a total nightmare! My older DDs went into a bed at a much earlier age without any trouble, but DD3 just loves to sleep in her cot. She is much happier at bedtime now
My DH works away and I didn't have the time or energy to deal with perserving with keeping the cot sides off. I just don't think she was ready. We will try again at a later date. |

Made the move back to the cot last night, dd went straight to bed and slept all night. She was pretty happy when her bed came back! So I guess she wasn't ready, and we will probably put the move off for quite some time now.
