My old 35 year old oven is a St. George and not a Westinghouse as I stated. Until we can afford another one, would buying an electric frypan be the answer? With Christmas approaching, would I be able to cook the pork crackle up to my liking with an electric frypan and what brands are recommended. Any ideas are gratefully accepted.

I love our electric frypan, you can absolutely do pork crackling in it, yumm. We had a sunbeam for many,many years.

My mum cooks roasts in an electric frying pan and I used one for a while when my ovenwas busted.

My mum always did roasts in the good old Sunbeam electric frypan. They came out pretty well which means if you are a decent cook, which my mother is NOT, then they'll probably come out really well.

I don't have an electric frying pan, but will be dropping hints for this Christmas. I hate our oven, it has too many hotter sections (if that makes sense).

Could you perhaps (one you buy the electric frying pan) do a test run on cooking a pork roast in it. Just to see how it turns out?

Just another thought, there are a lot of us so we had a "banquet" size one, they are huge, you can have the roast in the centre and all the vegies around the outsides. I think it was around $70-$80 a few years back, we used it when we had no oven. The smaller ones were more like $30-40.

rather than an electric frying pan what about one of those glass oven things that you get (they sit on the kitchen bench) - my mum has one & it is all she will use for roasts even though her oven is great

We cooked a pork roast (rack of pork) last weekend on the BBQ- just an ordinary hooded BBQ. Worked perfectly and wonderful crackling.

OP when I saw your original topic I thought of an article I saw somewhere recently, advising people to save energy by avoiding using the oven, and recommending a bench top oven instead.

I can't for the life of me remember where I read it!!!
And I think they were suggesting a bench top convection oven, or a toaster convection oven. They seem quite inexpensive. I just googled "bench top oven" and there are lots.

We do all Christmas roasting on the BBQ - added advantage that it doesn't heat up inside the house and because women are incapable of operating a BBQ (!) the men look after it.
