I sold my little 4 cyl sedan and bought a convertible. Classic "mid-life crisis" but it was fun. I owned it for 2 1/2 years then decided it was too hard to get in and out of so traded it for an X trail.
I used to take my two dogs to the dog wash and bath them, then put the top down and drive around town to dry them off. They'd sit on the back seat like a pair of movie stars.

Haven't had mine yet but DH is in the middle of his and has bought a black SS V8 Commodore aka the Big Black Money Burner. He drives around in it looking to make sure that other drivers are looking enviously at him as he 'roars' around the town making his V8 noises.

Con Sprezzatura.
People tend to go through identity crises at a number of key transition points in their lives. So many people do experience something of a "mid-life" crisis, but it's part of their ongoing development into maturity (a bit like adolescence is, only further along, obviously).

I haven't quite hit mid-life yet... my last big transition was becoming a mother, and I'm still reeling from that!

is it only a dream that there'll be no more turning away?
My mum did. She bought a sports car and a chihuahua.

M=mum, U=uni student, M=eMployee = busy!
I can pin point 2 'mid life' crises I've had so far, both punctuated by cars. The first saw me trade my crappy Kia for an Audi. Then I traded the Audi for a 2 door Jeep last year. Along with the Jeep, I chucked in my cushy public service job and studied full time to finish my degree instead.

I'm in this big-ass coat, from that thrift shop down the Rd
No. I'm having a decidedly ordinary and dull mid-life.

I think they do.

I think my life is just one big mid-life crisis - no flashy cars, just full of mourning and regrets. *sigh*
