Daycare birthday party

DS2 goes to daycare. He recently got a birthday invitation for a child in his room. I only just got a chance to look at it properly today. The party is in the daycare room during daycare hours. I am assuming that a birthday gift would still be required?? I haven't come across this before so not sure what normal practice would be??

I doubt a gift would be expected. About half the parents in DD's day care room bring in some sort of treat for their child's birthday. The center serves it at afternoon tea and sing to the birthday child. Usually we have to sign off when we bring DD in that day saying we're okay with her getting the treat. Never any prior warning. I don't know why the parents sent invitations??? At our childcare centre, you are welcome to bring a cake and candles/camera for your child's birthday and they sing Happy Birthday and the cake is served instead of afternoon tea. If you don't know the child, and it's just a cake, I wouldn't be bringing a present at all, as it would set a precedent. Maybe check with the childcare centre that the parents aren't organising an entertainer or some special activity for the birthday just to make sure.

Haha well you can hardly say he's not coming to the party can you!! Sounds a bit like a grab for presents to me... otherwise why send an invitation? Odd.

We had one instance for DS when a party was held at daycare, complete with party hats, cake and other party food. The mum came and took photos and left party bags for the kids. However, no invitations were sent - just a note in the morning saying that the kids would be having some party food during the day. Why bother with invitations - just odd.

That's bizarre that they would send an invitation. I wouldn't bring a present.

Sounds like a present grab to me. Let daycare do all the work, call it a party, then sit back and collect presents.
