Reading about the introduction of the wrist band coding for swimmers vs non at school swimming events got me wondering. Do all ACT schools have swimming lessons? My kids' school does, but it is a non-government school and we pay in our fees.

(The CT article for those who have no idea what I am talking about).

i'm not sure but our school does for year 3/4 (we have 3/4 composites.

however as of this year they changed it so only participants can attend swimming carnivals, and no more water fun days sad.gif

Our school has swimming lessons which we just finished. I think those tests are crazy and so are the ratios. Currently at the school swimming lessons we had 1:7 with kids who can swim. Not sure what the ratios are for kids who couldn't but they are in very shallow water anyway. K-6 do lessons at our school. How would they do that testing anyway?

I am at a high school and currently everyone is up in arms because it looks like lots of schools are pulling out of days at Big Splash because of the new legislation.

Big Splash test all kids before they are allowed to go in anyway (they have to swim across the pool, I believe.) Plus there is no unstructured activites (so they can't just have free time to swim.) Though apparently water slides are structured activites *eyeroll*.

However we've been told it's the schools decision to make and we are still going ahead.
