My DS has been tested for allergies at 3mths and just a few weeks ago at 14mths. First test all clear and second one shows a very bad reaction to egg and almond. He has had moments of not eating, not sleeping, whinging etc and we have never been able to pin point the problem. After the + reaction to egg and almond we thought we may be on the right track to getting him to be happy. I happened to mention to the allergist that DS poo's are extreamely bad and that they burn his bot almost instantly. Straight away he told me to put him on a fructose free diet and he would be a new kid. He gave me some info and i have been following it quite well.
After another night of no sleep last night and DS in pain with belly aches i did some research this morning. It seems that DS can not hardly anything. Things like bread, pasta, broccoli, strawberries, wheat cereals, chutney, honey are all things he loves and has been eating. The info from the allergist was not that indepth. I have been told i can have DS tested for a fructose intolerance/malabsorbtion (correct me if im wrong pls) and will look at getting a GP appt but in the mean time i want to try my best to be fructose free. Warning tmi - DS would poo about 5-6 times a day. It is very running, smells more that normal and ranges in colour from very dark brown to bright yellow like a newborn. If anyone has experience/comment or know of a good webites site to check out then i would love to hear about it. Thanks heaps Channy |

Hi
I am fructose intolerance and we suspect my DD is too (she is almost 3) but she is too young too have the breath test, but we follow the diet and the change is wonderful. There are two main dieticians in Melbourne (and both do Skype apps so you can be anywhere on the world) that specialise and do research in this area. The list of allowable foods change all the time (ag strawberries are okay as is limited broccoli) so I thoroughly recommend you see a dietitian that specialises in this area. plus they can help you reintroduce foods, learn about tolerance levels and explore other intolerances. But have you tested for coeliac ? It might be worth ruling that out via testing. We didn't but from experience DD was having symptoms when there was no wheat in her diet prior to me being tested for fructose intolerance. |
