Had my NT scan this morning and babies Femur length has come back as 9 days behind. I'm really worried as I just googled this and it tells me that is a marker for DS
Damn google... Someone tell me otherwise |

I just looked at the US pic of the femur length and I am not sure the Tech put the markers on the ends of the femur exactly.
Does anyone have any experience with this and can have a look and tell me if they are right or not? |

Step away from the computer - well Google at least.
The scan is merely a precautionary measure and there are lots of other factors to take into account first. Wait to hear from your doctor, they will possibly want to meet you to discuss the findings of the scan & the bloods. You will be given a ratio ( odds) of the chances of baby having DS. This is NOT a definite, it's a possibility ratio. For example you may have a 1 in 800 chance of bub having DS. So once you have the ratio you'll be told what level risk you are at. If you are in a high risk category it's then you need to have a good think about what you & DH want to do regarding further testing. There are 2 options - a CVS which you can have at 12 weeks or an Amnio later at around 17 weeks ( not 100% on when this avail, doc will tell you) These are both genetic tests and will test for not just DS but other chromosomal defects. Don't panic but do have a read about your options and once you have the results then you can make informed decisions.....stop google doctoring, its very early days in your pregnancy & there will be many more times you'll want to google - dont!! Enjoy your pregnancy |

I know how easy it is to panic. I was there not that long ago (My son is 3 months old). Try not to panic. I had a similar thing with my son's femur on the 19 week scan and did the exact same thing you did. Ultrasounds are not entirely accurate. It really depends on how the sonongrapher measure the limb. No two sonographers would do the same reading. Try not to stress - wait and see what your results are first. What was the nuchal fold reading?

Agree - wait for the results and try to put it out of your mind as so many factors come into that ratio you get at the 12 week scan.
We got all perfect on the scan and didnt have another thought until the blood tests came back as not good. There is not much you can do except wait for the doctor. If you end up unsatisfied with the answers you could ask for a repeat scan. When i was pregnant with DD2 I was told her head was really small - then at the same scan was told that was a mistake and it was fine. I was really stressed and went to GP and got another referral. All was fine on the second scan |

Today I was 12weeks 2Days by 2 early dating scans.
All my results are: Nuchal Fold x 3 Measurements 0.150 cm 0.156 cm 0.148 cm There is a scan that has NB on it which I assume is Nasal Bone. BPD 22.3mm 12w 5d HC 85.3mm 13w 1d AC 62.9mm 12w 0d FL 8.0mm 11w 0d CRL 71.0mm 13w 2d If you would like anything else I will see if I can find it:) |

I'm trying not to worry but I guess it is what we all do isn't it
I didn't have a Femur measurement until 20 weeks with DD1 so can't compare. What I find strange is bubs Crown to Rump length puts it 1 week ahead so obviously long but short legs. This one has slightly slightly smaller nuchal folds than DD1 did, not that that really means anything. Blood work came back fine so they told me as I had them last week but as I understand, you don't get the real results until all measurements are put together? |

Is there a probability of Down syndrome on your results?
I had my nt scan this week and at the appointment they did all the calcs based on age, nuchal measurement, blood tests etc. they then gave me the risk /probability of having a down syndrome baby. It was the same process with my first pregnancy. |

I don't know yet.
This tech is different from the lady I had who did DD last yr He asked me if I had bloods done, I thought he would have known that. Last yr , the tech entered all the results in while I was there but this one nothing, I walked out with pics and measurements on a disc. Doctors appointment in next Tuesday where we discuss results. This was booked weeks ago though. |

From my understanding they mainly look at NF measurement, and nasal bone being present. Your measurement is low, nasal bone present, these are good signs. Don't look for anything else. You - and especially not google - are not trained to look at the overall results. I'm sure it will be fine.
