Hi girls,I am about to start on a new IVF journey (I have done it before 5 years ago).I saw the FS yesterday and she said the clinic has changed their standard protocol to an antagonist cycle. (Last time I did long down ref with the bcp - this time there is no bcp either).So I was wondering if anyone could share any stories, or do you knew of advantages/disadvantages of doing this type of protocol.Thanks

It's strange they don't do long down regulated cycle at your clinic. That's the standard ones, and most common. I had that for cycle 1 and 2 but didn't get pregnant.

I did antagonist cycle for 3 and 4 and got my baby from cycle 4.

I like antagonist cycle cos instead of sniffing yucky synarel, I did an antagonist injection in the morning starting day 6 of the cycle instead. Forgot the name of that needle now. It prevents ovulation. I had the gonal f (fsh) in the evenings starting day 2 of my cycle.

This protocol takes less than month to see pos/neg results compared to the other protocol which takes more than a month.

I feel that the antagonist protocol is good for those with low ovarian reserve like myself.

It is much quicker and easier really. Less mood changes and side effects from the down reg meds but it does mean having two needles in the days leading up to egg collection. There is a slightly higher chance of ovulating before egg pick up but it doesn't happen often. It used to be a more expensive cycle but now that the government covers antagonist meds it is usually more affordable than a down reg cycle. Good luck!

I did an antag. cycle without the BCP. I had EPU on CD12, so it went really quickly compared to other's who are on different protocols.

Closer to EPU I did have 2 injections

I am on my first IVF cycle on an antagonist cycle. I think its the quickest cycle of IVF? Is that right?
I took Puregon (FSH) from day 2 of my cycle. Then on day 5 I started Orgalutran (Antagonist?) so I was taking 2 injections per day. On day 8 I stopped the injections and took the trigger Ovidrel. Had a day off of injections. Then on day 10 of my cycle I had my EPU and 5 days later I had the transfer. I'm now in the 2WW on Crinone and another drug as I have ACA. Good luck OP

Thank you for sharing all your tips and stories. I'm due to start next month (could have done it this month but epu and transfer would have been right between Christmas and New Year which is always a crazily busy time.)I'm looking forecast to being a shorter cycle. Less time to stress about the whole thing which I am dreading most. Better get back to distracting myself with Christmas fun ;-).

Hi. Newbie to all this forum biz but after 10 years of rollercoaster ttc it's definitely time to get some additional support. Years of ttc then endometriosis and ovarian cysts removed, rounds of frustrating and disappointing IUI we took a long break hoping it may happen naturally then the last couple years it was time to take the pressure off. I commenced my first round gonal 300 injections Xmas day. Orgalutran ontop of gonal from day 6 and my 3 ovidrel injections new years eve... with egg collection tomorrow. Fingers crossed my quality is good as I only have 2 follicles, but size of them and blood work, lining all where it needs to be. I have very short cycles and now limited egg reserve. Your post is the first I''ve read that is anywhere near similar to my cycle.
Would love to email or message if you''re interested. We now live interstate and have not told family we''re giving IVF another go.
