We have it, and most summers it's been fine though last summer, and looks like this summer too, it just seems to make the house humid or more humid than what it was.

I know it won't make the house 'cold' just cooler, which is fine but I can't stand the humidity. I put it on not long ago then turned it off a short time later as the humidity jumped, it is a VERY hot day today so I realise it will struggle, though we did buy a bigger unit than we needed.

Is this normal for evap or does it need checking?
It's 10 years old and we had it serviced perhaps the end of 2010??

Our Evap Cooling is horrible in the humidity, in fact everything just becomes wet and sticky, but it's great with the hot northerly breezes. I'm in Melbourne and my evap isn't working that great today.

I'm in melb too. We recently moved into a new place with the Evap central air, I've never had it before. I didn't know about the wet thing. So I went for a massive dive, slipping on the wet tiles, and have hurt my sizable ass.

Damn heat.

Evaporative cooling sucks in really hot and humid weather. It only generally takes the temperature down from 4-10 degrees from what it is outside.

Which is the reason i went with refridgerated air-con yes it costs alot of money to run but id much rather be cool than sit in 45 degree heat huh.gif

Do you have a window open in every room so the moist air can exit the house?

Yes in most rooms where there isn't a hot breeze coming through, so the majority are open

Yeah we grew up with evap cooling and my Mum always drilled it in to us that you need the windows open, even just 15cm. Whenever we forget in one of the rooms (usually DDs bedroom) the room gets so moist, otherwise we don't have any problems. If it is a really humid day it is a bit worse but on a day like today (in Melbourne) it works prefectly.
