how much care do you have to have before you can claim some kind of money back from centrelink?

and if we do have enough care does it then affect how much the other person gets from centrelink? if that makes sense?

Every situation is different. Maybe call centrelink and ask? Or the family assistance office?

Yes, it affects the other parent. If one parent gets 35% the other parent will get 65% because obviously they only have that amount of care (and technically should already have this level of care down for that child anyway)

All you need to do is apply, write down the level of care of the child, and see what happens. The other parent should have their level of care down so there shouldn't be any dramas, but if they don't you will need to prove it, and the other parent may find they have been overpaid.

Personally I would check with the other parent first and if they have 100% care in their details, then word it to Centrelink as though the care you have just began, because otherwise you could be in for some drama!

Assuming you are referring to a separated families situation, you have to have 35% care to get any FTB A or B. And yes, this will impact on the other person's payment as well. You will also be entitled to a percentage share of the school kids bonus, supplements and other once off payments linked to FTB A, such as the clean energy payment earlier this year.
