Hi everyone, I am in the middle of my Christmas shopping and I'm a bit stuck. My friends baby daughter will be 9 months at Christmas and I'm wanting to get her some books but also something fun for her to play with that's not too cheap/plasticy or takes up too much room. So what have been your baby's favourites at that age? I can budget up to around $100. Also if anyone has any book recommendations that would be great too! I've already got a couple of Dr Seuss and some Beatrix Potter for when she's a bit bigger.

DD was given a FisherPrice musical walker at about 7 months old which became her favourite 'active toy' from about 9 months right through till 16 months or so. Here is a link http://www.fisher-price.com/en_us/brands/b.../products/56708

The music is not annoying (important!) as there are a number of tunes and the volume can be turned down. DD would sit there happily plaing with it for ages and at 9 months when she started crawling she would nudge it around and eventually by 12+ months she was toddling around pushing it.

Definitely a toy that can be enjoyed for many many months and it helps with learning to walk/mobility too. Good value as well.

Books that are made of heavy cardboard.
Blocks or rings that they can play with.
Those play tables with many buttons to push.
Musical buttons to push.

They love pushing buttons at this age.

My DD is 9 months, she loves her activity table. She's not crawling yet but loves to stand and this keeps her occupied for ages.

She also loves books (seems to prefer them over toys) and her favourties are the touchy feely ones.

I was given a nursery rhyme book which is beautiful and something that DD will want to read for years to come I'd say.

Stacking blocks

DS really started getting into his ring stacker toy at around 10 months. He's just got a plastic fisher price one, but you can get lovely wooden ones and lamaze also do a soft one.

He also loves playing with books, so board books would be a great idea. He also loves his bath books. In the last couple of months he's really getting into turning the pages on his own, and now "helps" us when we read him bedtime stories.

Fisherprice letter box, has a door that opens and shuts and various other bits and pieces. I know so many babies and toddlers that love this toy

Today, a deck of cards and a cardboard box. Oh the mess.

Anything with wheels. He's got the 'broom broom' bit while dragging it back and forth across the floor in front of him down to a tea.

Musical toys - an electric guitar thing, various wooden rattles and shakers, tambourine, drum, xylophone.
