Hi there
Could fellow members please PM me re experiences they have had with St George private, St George public as a private patient, and Canterbury Hospital as a public or private patient.
Also any recommendation of OB's having visiting rights to these hospitals would be much appreciated. I have private health insurance but am unsure whether to go public or private. I am in the catchment area for Canterbury.
Cheers

St George: No experience with the mat ward but heaps with the oncology department. Amazing nurses, fantastic facilities, parking is average, specialists in the building is a big plus, the hospital has a great relationship with other specialist departments at other hospitals in the event of things not going according to plan. Lots of local OB's also work from here and most have been around for donkey's years with great reputations.

Best of luck OP.

I like cats, but I couldn't eat a whole one.
I went to Canterbury as a public patient for my second birth. The first was at RPA, but we'd moved by the second time.

At Canterbury, the food was awful. I didn't particularly like the OBs who I saw when I was doing shared care with my GP but there was nothing wrong with them, if you know what I mean, and if you're going private it won't matter.

As far as the whole giving birth part went, I had wonderful and very supportive midwives who worked hard to ensure all my needs were met. In my opinion, that was the most important bit. The lactation consultant was also very good. The midwives on the ward could be a bit brusque, but this was three years ago so a lot could have changed.

I know a woman who went to the birth centre at St George in the last few months and really loved it.

Good luck with it all.

Had all my kids at st george public have had no problems whatsoever, they were fantastic with 1st i was induced and they handled it and explained everything down to the T, My 2nd i was in by myself my ex at the time was trying to get there in time, and i had a trainee midwife come in give massage and everything was awesome my 3rd i unfortunately lost at 20 weeks, the amazing care from such a hard time made it so much easier for me, My 4th again i cant not fault the midwifes at all and my son ended up in SCN and they always kept me informed he was in there for a week. The food was awesome when in maternity ward and trust me Im fussy lol
