My DD had some medicine to be given at lunch today. At drop off I filled out the form and handed over the medicine.
DH picked her up and they'd forgotten to give her the medicine. First carer (different one to this morning) said the form wasn't done this morning. After seeing the form she got another carer (not sure if it was this morning's carer). The second carer said she'd forgotten. Tomorrow I will speak to someone. Should it be the room leader or the centre director? I will ask for an explanation and an apology. I'll also ask for assurance that their procedures will be reviewed/improved so this doesn't happen again. Does that seem ok? Have I forgotten anything? Should I ask for things in writing? Thanks! |

TBH, if it wasn't life saving medication, I don't think I'd worry too much about it. They are human, mistakes get made, things get forgotten and overlooked. I doubt it is a regular occurrence that they forget medication. I just imagine that perhaps it became hectic and it was just an honest oversight.
If it makes you feel better, sure, say something to someone, but I doubt it will change anything. If however, it was a very important, can't ever be missed medication, then I think you have more cause to take issue with it. I know some will disagree with me, but that's just how I see it. |

I'm with bakesgirls. It happened often enough while my boys were at kindy that I wouldn't say it was a once off thing. Whenever they had medicine which wasn't run of the mill though, there were never any problems.

I might be being a little whingy but for me I'd be a little upset, I get that they are human & they make mistakes just as I do but I am fiercely defensive of my son so if their mistake could have negatively impacted him I wouldn't be impressed. I would speak to them about reviewing policies to avoid similar incidents because next time it could effect the child badly.

TBH, if it wasn't life saving medication, I don't think I'd worry too much about it. I agree. It's happened more than once with both of my children. Who have over the last year or two had a lot of antibiotics for ear/tonsil issues. The staff always apologise and I adjust the dose accordingly. It's pretty chaotic some days so I can understand it can be sometimes missed. |

It can be a bit annoying but not something I'd get worked up over. If it was life saving medication and the effects of it not being given were really disastrous then I probably wouldn't be putting my children in care while they needed it. |

Completely agree with this. They are human and make mistakes. Sure, explain your disappointment but don't be too harsh. They are not looking after just one child but many and as a previous childcare worker i know exactly the guilt felt when a mistake like this happens. If the staff are not taking it seriously and seem to have a 'whatever' attitude i would definitely follow up with the director but if the staff are genuinely sorry and the medicine is just antibiotics etc and not a life or death situation then i would chalk this up to a simple human error. I'm sure the staff will not forget their mistake in a hurry. |

OP, have you decided what you will do? If you did speak to the daycare centre, what was their response?

Did you ring and remind the centre to give it to her? The centre has a stack of kids to look after, things get missed and if it is really important you either give it to your kid yourself or ring and remind them at the right time.
I won't go into the whole issue of sending a sick kid to daycare and just hope it was for something that isn't contagious. |

After the earlier responses & having the evening to consider, I realised it wasn't that big a deal. Worth mentioning, but not getting worked up over it.
I ran into the director in the bank first thing this morning. As she hadn't been to the centre yet she hadn't heard anything. Anyways, she said she'd follow up with the staff. I'm happy with that In future I will ring the centre to check. Which seems obvious now, but there'd never been any missed doses before. DD was not contagious, otherwise I wouldn't have sent her. I'm not one of THOSE parents |
