When I had DD 10 months ago, I was induced and put on a portable drip so I could walk and go where ever I pleased.

Midwives informed me I couldn't have a bath but could use the shower and I don't think I asked why I couldn't have a bath.

Does anyone know why that was? I have read of others being allowed to have a bath.
Confused and thinking of my next labour already biggrin.gif

Con Sprezzatura.
Same thing happened to me; I believe that once your waters have broken you run an increased risk of infection in the bath.

I think some hospitals just have rules of their own wink.gif

I had an induction on monday and birthed in the water.

In some places it is a health and safety issue if they do not have support staff that can assist in lifting you out of the bath in an emergency.

I wasn't allowed in the bath after my waters had been broken. I don't know whether it was standard, or if it was because there was meconium in the waters...

However, the water wasn't hot enough at my hospital to actually offer any real pain relief, so I don't feel I missed out too much!

Also, it might have been that the monitor was shower proof but not completely water proof.

After I typed it I did think maybe it was because they broke my waters?
I must ask next time.

I wasn't monitored continously, just every now and then the midwife would turn the shower off and pop down and put it around me, she was amzing. I didn't even have to move, she just worked herself around me.

I remember when I was induced with my first I was only offered the bath once labour was established. They didn't want me in the bath before that in case it stopped the labour.

My waters had been broken for 9 hours when I got into my birthing pool (I was encouraged to get in). So nothing to do with infection, unless it just because it's a hospital (I was at home). And there was slight mec staining in my waters. All we did was monitor heart rate often. Hospitals like to cover themselves.

I was allowed in the bath when in labour with DD and my waters had broken some 4 hours earlier.

I think it's just a matter of different hospitals, different rules.
