Hi,
I was wondering if anyone had any tips to help me get my nearly 6mth old labrador puppy to stop harassing my 2yr old daughter! He is a lovely boy who does quite well with obedience with us and my 8yr DS -wil jump etc but only once then will sit when asked - but when it comes to my DD he just won't leave her alone. He jumps, or licks or playbites and generally annoys her! Luckily she is a tough cookie so it has not scared her at all but it is really hard for us to be outside playing with her as he just won't leave her alone! Or anywhere really - it is like he targets her! We are taking him to the next level of training in January but would love to know if there is something I can do between now and then! Thanks |

The dying doggy squeal. You need to do this whenever he's in her face. A squirt gun might also be helpful - although this could be a problem if he's too close to your DD.
If that's not working, leash him every time he oversteps the 'polite attention' boundaries. If he's 6mo, he should know sit and down - give him those commands when he runs towards her, and make the command 'very firm', as in 'its not optional'. If none of that works, time-out every single time he does it. In every instance, the response must be immediate and consequential to the action or behaviour you want to stop. When its replaced with a sit or down, or something desirable, praise and reward. |
