I have two beautiful boys. I love both of their names. They are the top two boys names we had picked out both times I was pregnant. They sound nice together. Until you shorten one of them (which will inevitably happen) they rhyme, like Bill and Will (but not the same name of course).

I don't regret their names but I feel in some way we have made them sound silly because the rhyme... I don't have a problem with what we call them, at this point in time they have nicknames that have nothing to do with their first name. Or we call them by their full first name. But I wonder if they will have a problem later in life like at school etc, you know because I've called them eg Bill and Will IYKWIM??

Am I alone in this feeling or are there others out there who have unintentionally done the same??

Keep calm & put it on EB.
I don't regret naming our children their names, though I wish I had more of a say. DD2's nickname was meant to be MJ, but that's somehow been forgotten and she is called Moo 90% of the time. We call DD1 Lou, so we have a Lou & Moo wink.gif
I think it's cute, but hopefully once DD2 is a kinder she'll get MJ a bit more.

We have the same 'issue'...
We have a Lachlan, Oliver and Archer...all fine names, but they most often get Lachie, Ollie and Archie which i also love, just not when i have to call them all at once! lol
I also very often get their names mixed up because they sound similar!

Not with their full names but as time has gone on I abbreviate their names when I write them to an initial. My second and third sons are often grouped together (closest in age) and I will often group the younger two together. So when I do that it can look like-S & M or F O. laughing2.gif

I know brothers Jackson and Zack (Jack and Zack if nn, but Jackson is always Jackson), and other brothers Ethan and Nathan (who gets Nate).

Yes, I've done it unintentionally, the NN for my DS2 is very similar to my DS1's name. I call the name and both answer. I didn't realise at the time as it wasn't the obvious NN (my then 2yo came up with it). Its cute though and even with 8 yrs difference they are like 2 peas in a pod.

Sometimes I feel a bit silly because my kids have matchy names, all three start with "A" but then again the "A" names were the only ones DH and I could agree on.
On the plus side, the names flow beautifully together when I am reading them the riot act.

There are siblings in my family (older generation) with rhyming names, with Andy and Mandie type similarities. I don't remember much being made of it, and I only think of it occasionally.

I've only got the one child and I had to scratch 'Evelyn' off my list, and any other Eve sounding names, that is for sure.

OP, I am soooooo curious about what names you have used. Can I guess?

Edward and Frederick

Zachary and Mackinley

Jonathan and Donald

Ohhhhhhhh tell me biggrin.gif

Haha nice try wink.gif Think more 'icky'...

And I just got why you can't use Eve or similar, took me a minute (eejiot I am!!)

I am so glad others have done similar. Funny how versions of names shortened and nicknames can sound the same as the other name and you don't think of or couldn't predict what would eventuate as their personalities come out and words roll off your tongue...

As I said I love their names (and of course them) dearly and wouldn't/couldn't change them.

What should we name our third when the time comes?? If we make that rhyme too, then we really are crazy! biggrin.gif
