I went to my 24 week ob appt this morning, he noticed a small growth in the baby's abdomen. He suspected a few things but sent me for an urgent ultrasound straight away.
At the scan the ultrasound lady and the senior ultrasound technician both checked all the things they suspected it was. We didn't get any difinitive answers, but we're advised that they thought that it was possibly a slightly enlarged bowel. We have to go back for a scan in 4 weeks to check and see where it is at. They basically gave us 3 possibilities - it could disappear by itself before we go back in 4 weeks for the scan, it could stay the same size and need monitoring, or it could get bigger and will need more monitoring, bub will possibly need surgery after birth. Everything was all fine at the 19 week scan, oaf also the week later at my ob appt, so it has only appeared within the last 3-4 weeks. Has anyone had anything like this happen or have any experience in this? |

Hey
I'm not sure if it's really the same but at my 30 week check-up they thought bub was a bit bigger than expected. I was just so excited to see him again at that point! I went for an ultrasound and they said he was 4.2 pounds which made him in the 90th percentile for size, but he's all in proportion so maybe the dates are just a bit off. So then you're thinking 'ok, that's nothing major'. They pointed out again that he's definately a boy and then let me know that his kidneys are dialated and that they're borderline concerned and want another ultrasound at 36 weeks (20th Dec) and monitor it. Then also another scan once he's born. I don't really understand what it means and the midwife just told me that he's still within the normal range so it's ok for now... |

I hope they work it out quickly! its so stressful when its the unknown.
Its good that it got picked up as most dont have scans after the 19 week mark. |

In my first pregnancy, at my 18 week scan, they found one kidney was enlarged. They said it was common and usually fixes itself, but when i went back at 30 weeks it was still large. I was informed there was a blockage which meant the urine wasnt getting through fast enough, and he would need an op when he was born. I was so scared for him and really didnt enjoy my pregnancy knowing he was sick
I can totally relate, and i know its frightening, but try to be calm for your baby. You may find it corrects itself, so try not to stress too much until you know for sure whats happening. Its amazing what they can find now while in utero, and im sure they will monitor it and keep you well informed. Big hugs x |

QUOTE (KimmiJade @ 30/11/2012, 02:39 PM) 15119897[/url]'] Hey I'm not sure if it's really the same but at my 30 week check-up they thought bub was a bit bigger than expected. Sounds just like what happened with my baby boy. It sounds positive hes still within the normal range. My sons kidney was over normal size. All the best |
