I'm tossing up whether to buy DS almost 7 and 9 an iPod touch or iPad for Xmas this year. Just wondering if anyone can tell if the iPod touch has Internet browsing capability? I'm not sure I'm ready for the kids to have unlimited access to the net at these ages, which is what's leading me away from the iPad.

An iPod touch does have internet but you can password protect it so it can't be used when you don't want it to be. I think you could do that with an iPad too original.gif

Exactly what Therese said. If you are tossing up between the two you could also throw the ipad mini into the mix

Both have WiFi access but you don't have to enable it. We just got an iPad Mini and love it! best of both worlds, small and light enough to be easily portable and large enough to play games easier, watch videos etc.

I also have an iPhone (same size as touch) and was borrowing FILs iPad2 and I would choose the iPad Mini again any day. My only problem is I have to fight off my kids for it, lol.

I would through the Ipad mini into the mix too. I haven't really checked out the size dimension of it but I like the fact that DS's Ipod touch is so portable.

He has a little case for it that he clips on his belt and he can take it with him if we go to the doctors, at DD's sporting events etc. To me the Ipad is too large to easily carry around. I can see that it would just end up being yet another item that I will be asked to look after/carry. If I am asked to look after the Ipod I can simply just throw it in my handbag or put it in my pocket.

I like cats, but I couldn't eat a whole one.
My children are trying to convince me that the Ipad Mini is for kids and they need one.

Can't believe my baby girl is 1!
My 7 year old has an ipod touch. We have a password so she cannot access the internet.

We use iTunes cards to buy apps/music so we don't have credit card details on the ipod. And you need the password to buy anything. Also have the buy in games app thing turned off so she can't buy anything from the popup adds.

ipad mini looks good but ipod is cheaper. We were not prepared to spend anymore than we did. I love how compact it is ipod is. DD can carry it herself in a small bad. Ipads (even the mini) are bulky.

Also with the ipod you can get covers that completely enclose them. DD's has a hard cover on the screen and back which is great when it's for kids. I have yet to find anything that completely encloses our ipad.

I'm just looking at the apple store now and am pleasantly surprised to see they offer discounts when you buy more than one, as well as free shipping. I also like the free engraving option - saves me having to get it done. If I buy through them, it means DH can get a 32GB instead of the 16GB I was going to be stingy and get him original.gif
