I'm very excited and very nervous. This is our first pregnancy (husband and I) and we were planning. From what I can work out I am 6 weeks pregnant but I'm very confused! My period was late for my last period so I'm not sure when to start counting as day one.
I have absolutely no idea what to do now. My partner works on the rigs so I have just messaged him a picture of the positive test. I don't even know if that was a good idea or If I should have waited. Never mind. My main concern is I work around allot of cleaning products and I am in a position to quit work but I have exposed my baby to all these nasty chemicals already Do I go to the doctor now? What do I do? I'm also getting a bit of cramping is that normal? Thank you so much. One very nervous mum-to-be. |

Its alot to take in.
1. I would definitly speak to the Dr about the chemicals you work around. Early pregnancy is so important for fetal development and the less exposure to harmful chemicals the better for baby. 2. The Dr will sort out all the tests you need and possibly work out your due date based on you last monthly period, you may be offered an early ultrasound to confirm the dates. You may have some blood taken to confirm pregnancy and test you for blood type etc. 3. Cramping is alot of the time a normal part of early pregnancy, however if the pain is localised to one area and is quite bad get checked out. Also if you have cramping with bleeding get checked. 4. I think its sweet you sent your hubby a picture of the pregnancy test. As you were trying it will not be a horrible shock as was for my DH (we were not TTC our first, and was not the best timing) Good luck with your pregnancy This post has been edited by *Natski82*: 27/11/2012, 04:47 PM |

Hi OP & congratulations!!
I would book in to see your doctor ASAP, they can refer you for a dating scan since you are not sure about your dates. With the chemical exposure issue, I would suggest calling the Mothersafe or equivalent hotline in your state - have a look at this webpage for phone numbers etc. Wishing you all the best with your pregnancy!! |

Congratulations!!
I agree with the other posters - make your appointment to see your GP. They can give you all the basic information you need. As for the chemicals - you shouldn't expose yourself to harmful chemicals. Speak to your doctor and ring the Mothersafe hotline in your state. As for the cramping - totally normal. I had that. My mum used to tell me this was the baby 'burrowing' in - but I think it's more to do with your uterus stretching. If the pain is heavy and localised, and you get any spotting or bleeding - get it checked. GP's can be a world of information. |

Did you? I would too if the chemicals would expose my baby to something harmful. It's funny, once you are pregnant your whole life changes from only worrying about yourself to putting your baby first. Even when I cut my finger the other night the first thing I thought of was "the baby!" (then calmed down quick coz I knew the baby was totally fine). Haha.
6 weeks! Congratulations again. Wish you a happy, healthy and safe pregnancy!! |
