Ok,

I have been given 2 different quotes of a removalist, both have the same distance to travel from depot to depot, both are the same size truck with the same number of people.

BUT- 1 says it will take 3.75 hours to move, the other says 5-6 hours

The 1 that says 3.75hours is $173/h and the other is $150/h

I am thinking about going with the one for $150, as I would rather find it take less time than the 5-6 hours, than go with the other who quoted $173/h and find out is takes the 6 hours.

Opinions please,

ETA- I am not hiring a truck and doing it myself, as SIL, FIL and BIL are all exhausted from renos and still have more to do after the painting is done, and they all moved me in May.

We used to stay at home but now we have a social life ..
Is the shorter time quote referring to "house to house" or "depot to depot"? The difference there could explain the difference in times quoted.

Both are depot to depot and both depots are only 20 mins away from here

hmm, thats strange. Maybe one quoted time including loading and unloading and the other didnt? or maybe one included a break and the other didn't.
I think go with the cheaper one for the exact reason you stated!

I have a food blog.
Perhaps the one that quoted 5-6 hours was overestimating and the other one was underestimating.

If both are equal in all other ways, just go for the cheaper one, I'd imagine in reality they'd actually take the same time.

Can you ask them to quote a fixed price, or will they only provide an estimate?
If you can lock one of them into a fixed price you're happy with, then perhaps you can negotiate with the other company to see if they can better the deal.

The $173/h one gave and estimate based on taking 3.75 hours of $648, but subject to change, the $150/h one only quotes an hourly rate, not set price.

Neither has seen inside this house, only gone by what I told them over the phone, which was the exact same information

The only thing that would worry me about the 5-6hr one is that they may drag it out and end up taking the whole time and that will cost you heaps more.

Are they doing the packing of boxes? or just moving furniture etc?

I'd go with quote two as they're probably more realistic. Been stung before with companies that say it will only take a short time, then end up taking twice as long.
