Just wondering if anyone has dropped out of uni and gone to tafe instead - studying the same field (nursing)?

I have also been thinking long and hard about this aswell. I'm currently doing Nursing at uni (just finished my first year but I only completed 5 units) and I'm not sure if I should keep going or just go to TAFE instead to do EN. I could then go out & work for a few years until all my kids are at school and then do the RN conversion at uni? When I started uni at the beginning of the year there was no real need for me to go out and work but now things have changed, the sooner I can bring in some money it would be beneficial.

So I too am curious to see if anyone has discontinued uni to go to TAFE and do you regret it or was it all for the better? (Sorry winter mint for hijacking your post but I've been meaning to write the same post for a long time!)

I'm glad I'm not the only one, MyPrincess, hijack away. I've had some health issues this year that have sort of made me question my priorities - alot. And while I know I want to be a nurse, I don't necessarily want to be a RN. And I sort of want it over and done with as quickly as I can do it.

I can't help with your question OP, but did just finish my 1st year of my nursing degree. I can relate to the health issues though. Good luck with your decision.

MyPrincess - Apply for PCA work or even look into agency's. They love nursing students and it pays very well, lots of work to be found too. No need to wait. You can do this now. I have a lot of my Uni friends now working in Aged Care.

ETA (OP) - Just had another thought. I would also look into what time is spent at Uni compared to TAFE. I have a friend doing her EN at TAFE and is still going to classes. I finished ages ago and have 5 months off. TAFE holidays are much shorter than that. Worth comparing.

I have a friend who did just that. She preferred the tafe environment and found work easily once she completed the EN bit, and she is now starting the RN process. She did it because of health issues too. It is doable and you can still have a full nursing career.
