Hi Everyone,

I have put up a post about this in the past but I am needing your help again.

I completed the two day introductory to massage course and absolutely loved it.

My hope now is to enrol in the Diploma of Remedial Massage next year (funds permitting) and also purchase a table so I can keep practicing on friends and family whilst continuing my learning.

I have been advised that I should buy the table under a business name so I can claim it back on tax etc.

My preference is to work from home or be mobile. FYI - In the diploma you cover - relaxation, face, sports, remedial, pregnancy, aromatherapy. I don't think at this stage I want to do aromatherapy massage though. I also would like to massage children as well. I really enjoy doing relaxation and I think pregnancy would be good as well. Basically anyone in the family can come to me for a massage

I am having a mental block at the moment re names to incorporate the above, what do you think would be a great name?

Thanks

From what I've read on EB it can be a good idea to have a straightforward business name that can easily be found using a search engine. So although it can sound dull, something like [Suburb/town name] Remedial Massage might generate more business than a more creative name.

Good luck!

or Fembo maybe...
Not sure if the business name is solely to claim the table off your tax?

If so, I don't think you need to have a registered business name to deduct a business expense - in fact having a registered business name would probably still not allow you to deduct it (I think until you have made a profit for 3 years or something). You may want to post this in the money section and someone more knowledgeable might have some idea.

You need to actually be running a business to claim business expenses, not just have a business name. Otherwise Joe Bloggs can register his business name "Joe Bloggs Massage Therapy", and claim whatever he feels like deducting, even though he isn't actually running a business. Have a read of the ATO website re running a business and claiming business deductions.

However, it might be a good idea to register a name you like for the future, in any case, so it's "baggsed" for when you want it. :-)

Please don't use a person's name or suburb for your business name - you'll find it very limiting down the track, eg if you move, if you want to sell it etc. And don't use "therapist" because in a domain name it looks the same as "the rapist". To keep your options open, I would use something slightly generic like "Somethingorother Therapies". This means you can add other services and not only be seen as purely massage. Choose a word or two that's meaningful for you. You could get slightly cute with something along the lines of "Touchy Feely" or "Touchy Healy". I hope that helps. Good luck!

Thank you everyone for your replies.

I am trying to think of names so I can see if they are free on the business name register and if it is I will bagged it so I can use it in the future.

So the names I have come up with so far are:

- Zen-sations
- Absolute Bliss Massage Therapy
- Kneading to Relax
- Circle of Life Massage Therapy
- Tense Free Massage Therapy
- Generations Massage Therapy

Other suggestions welcome.

Circle of Life or Generations Massage Therapy I like cause it can incorporate both parents, children and elderly (all stages of life).

I do like the idea of just using ................. Therapies in the name and keep my option open should I want to expand and offer other services/therapies so maybe some suggestions of altering the names above or throwing something new at me with the word Therapies in it would be great.

Let me know what you think...

Thanks again
