While waiting for 2yr old DS to get proper diganoises of lactose intolerence and coeliacs. We are seeing a gastro specialist in a couple weeks and hopefully a dietitian and everything has anyone got suggestions on how to get calcium into DS2. He has 2 bottles of lactose free milk a day (Ive already had a lecture from health nurse about the bottles but moving on) he breaks out in a really nasty rash all over with the smallest amount of diary his had lately, I know green leafy veggies have alot of calicum anything else Im missing? Of course we cant avoid gluten yet (8yr old DS has coeliacs) . Just want to make sure Im getting enough calcium in other forms for him!

Are you sure it's a lactose and not casein issue?
Our 2yo DS has a problem with the latter so we give him rice milk (Vitasoy or Macro are best) - have you tried that or soy milk? For yoghurt he has Soy Life (note some soy yoghurts are still cultured with dairy initially) and for cheese, manchego (made from Spanish sheep's milk). |

DD has vitasoy rice milk on her porridge but has issues tolerating enough to reach her calcium requirements so we grind up half a caltrate calcium tablet each morning and that also goes in her porridge.
I wouldn't start supplementing unless recommended by the health professionals though. Things will be much easier after seeing the dietician. |

peters makes a lactose free ice cream, you can also get lactose free yoghurt in the supermarkets.
nuts and seeds are a good source of calcium. Make nuggets and coat them in sesame seeds. nuttalex is a good dairy free spread. plenty of stuff out there just gotta keeps reading the labels (painful i know) |
