One of my children is a 9yo boy. He has an ASD among other things, which affects his eating. Last night I had what I thought was a major win by convincing him to eat quiche. He has never eaten an egg dish before but it is in a lot of baked things which he eats without a problem. He seemed to enjoy it and ate the whole slice. Nearly three hours later after he had been in bed for a while, I heard the lovely noise of puke hitting my carpet....and again....and again. When he finished he said he felt better and by the time I had done scrubbing carpet he was sleeping. Does this sound like an intolerance or maybe just a reaction as his body isn't used to so much egg?

I don't know but my baby recently had a similar response to egg (incidentally he has a sister with ASD)

Started vomiting a few hours afterwards, kept going til his stomach was empty (9 times) then fell asleep and was absolutely fine. No one else in the family had gastro symptoms.

We'll be seeing a dietician on Sat so I'll be asking her if it's intolerance or an allergy. From what I've read the vomiting would have started earlier if it were an allergy.

Will post again when I know more.

Hi,

I have an intolerance ( I throw it all back up about 30 mins after I eat them/it) to 'normal' eggs as they contain antibiotics. I buy Eco eggs from Woolies (I don't think Coles carry them anymore :-(. They don't have any added antibiotics and I have never had a problem.

I know someone who had an egg intolerance (causing gastro like symptoms) whcih was related to a medication they were on. Is your son on any meds which may be contraindicating with eggs?

He takes melatonin at night, but that is a naturally occurring hormone anyway that he lacks. I buy organic free range eggs which state nothing is added to the feed etc so I dont think it would be that either.

I have an egg in tolerance of sorts. If I were to eat fried/poached eggs etc at breakfast I will be curled up in a ball most of the day, nauseous, crampy and sometimes vomitting. Same goes for quiches etc or anything predominately made of egg.

I have no problem with cakes or anything baked with a few eggs, I also have no probs with fried rice or small amounts that are in a big dish.

Sometimes if I eat a really eggy cake or french toast, I will feel a bit off for a couple of hours.

Its really strange. And it also sucks because I love eggs!! It didn't always affect me as much as it does now.

Corbel, I would check wtih your doctor. DD had an egg intolerance which we were unaware of, she never liked eating eggs so we never forced her to eat them. It only came out in the allergy test we had done that confirmed she was ana to certain nuts that she was in all probability growing out of an egg intolerace as well.

I used to have an egg intolerance as a child. I couldn't eat anything where the principal ingredients were egg and milk - like quiches, scrambled eggs etc. I would invariably throw up. I eventually grew out of it by my mid-teens.
