Any thoughts about the ergo vs manduca? i have heard the manduca is more supportive for younger babies who cannot sit with their legs out yet.

they are quite similar really.

The Manduca has a built in insert for little bubs, the ergo you have to buy a separate insert to use.

The Manduca has an adjustable back height to support diff sized babies/toddlers and you can wear the straps in a crossed over fashion on your back.

Some people don't like the strap buckles on the Manduca as they are a bit tricky to undo - have to use two hands (although apparently you get the hang of it pretty quickly)

I haven't used either though with my own bub but am going on what has been recommended by friends - i went with the Manduca, mainly for the insert and the cross straps (as I find that more comfortable when wearing carrier on front)

I found the Manduca slightly more adjustable too so comfier for both me and DP to wear. I could adjust it to fit my hips better when wearing for practice, and I am 34w pregnant, so a bit of adjusting was needed

Newborn insert in the Manduca is included rather than an extra cost and is a lot cooler than the doona-esque pillowed insert used with an Ergo.

Ergo charge a premium price for their organic model, Manduca is made from organic cotton as standard.

Ergo are known to have a lot of fakes on the market, so you'd need to ensure you're buying from a licensed retailer (check Babes in Arms, the Australian Distributor, particularly for online stores) and be super duper careful if considering secondhand, Manduca is not known to have the same issue.

I haven't tried a Manduca but my friend has one and ADORES it. I also love my ergo but as PP said the newborn insert is very hot in summer, it's perfect for a winter newborn (or until they don't need one anymore).

I've had both, I prefer the manduca except I wish it had a zip pocket like the ergo - I do miss that.

The manduca is better value if you are using from newborn.

I wouldn't even think about the ergo with a newborn in summer. The insert is great but it is so so hot. For you and bubs. It will be great when DD is older but were using a Hugabub for now and it's fantastic. Better on our backs than the Ergo too.

I looked at both and ended up buying a Manduca because of the newborn insert. Is great with my new bub. She falls asleep so quickly in it and it is super comfy as well.

The waist buckle is a pain however as you need two hands to undo it. Also I don't know if I am a bit clueless but I don't know how to work the sun shade. With the Ergo the sun shade has press studs that attach it to the sling to cover bubs head. The manduca does not have this so I end up holding it over bubs head otherwise it falls on their head and irritates them. Am I missing a trick here I wonder?

Wisconsin2010 - there are little pastic clips on the shoulder straps, on the hood there is cord you just hook onto the clips.
