We are currently on holidays and my 7mo DD is waking frequently at night - sometimes hourly!! If she is not offered the breast she immediately starts hysterically screaming and will not stop. DH and I have even resorted to co sleeping in an effort to get some sleep, which I don't like.

What is going on??! She usually wakes several times a night but is easily settled. She has been sick recently but she no longer has symptoms. She seems fine during the day.

Teething? You could try offering some pain relief if you're comfortable with that, would be awful if she was in pain. Breastfeeding reduces pain. Could also just be unsettled due to a change of surroundings etc.

Maybe she's got used to being fed upon waking while she was sick, and now is struggling to get back to sleep without it? Some babies develop sleep associations very quickly and find it hard to get used to sleeping without them again.

Having said that, at that age DS had about a week like that, and it turned out to be teething. I have since decided that I am going to be generous with the pain relief - if he wakes up twice and I suspect there might be teething pain, I'll give him Nurofen, even if I can't see a tooth coming through.

Are you on holidays as in you are staying away from home? If that is the case she is probably rather distressed at not being in her usual surrounds...breastfeeding is a source of comfort too and she may be demanding to be fed to be reconnected with you when she wakes up in a strange house?

We travelled with DD 13 months are she frequently woke during the night and needed comforting...she also has the most terrible separation anxiety throughout her trip where she had to come with me everywhere otherwise she would scream the place down...

My war paint is Sharpie ink
Teething would be my guess. Is she drooly?

My DS underwent a complete sleep change at 8 months coinciding with his first and then second tooth. He's improved as the drool has slowed and he'll also play on the floor again for a while. That was a tough tough month.

This happened every time my DS had an ear infection. By the time it was over he was back to waking hourly or less for another feed, and I eventually i had to completely night wean him to stop it.
